Hello! Over the past week, we've been talking about how the page is set up and how we can improve it, so I've made several changes:
- The biggest change is that the leaderboards are now separated by clan! Previously, clan choice was only an annotation, and most runs are with Bonehaunted as it's by far the fastest clan. The in-game leaderboards have always been separated per clan, and the gameplay itself is different enough per clan to warrant the separation. Bonehaunted will remain the default clan displayed as it's the fastest and most popular.
- You must now specify whether or not you obtained the Sinners Trinket item during runs. This is because it makes boss fights several times faster while you're low on health compared to without the item, saving a massive amount of time, even compared to any other item in the game. This is a very specific item you need, and grinding for it can be a slog, so you may now submit no sinners trinket PBs in addition to PBs with the trinket. I considered separating the leaderboards between trinket and no trinket, but the issue is that we want to have one unified leaderboard with all overall PBs, whether they got the trinket or not. The ideal scenario would be to have an overall leaderboard and a no trinket leaderboard, but SRC doesn't have that feature to my knowledge without duplicating submissions, so currently you need to click filters and select "Sinners: No" to view no trinket times only. This may be changed in the future if there's enough demand, but either way, you're encouraged to submit no sinners trinket times!
- The revive from Selestious Halo was previously banned due to a bug where the timer would stop for the rest of the stage after reviving, but that bug was fixed long ago, so it's unbanned now.
- Chronos Chests are now banned. These can generate randomly and act as a universal storage (like an ender chest) across runs that you can hold up to 3 items inside, which means you can obtain items you normally might not have been able to on that seed. This would shift the focus of speedruns from finding sinners trinket to finding a chronos chest, which would be much much more tedious due to needing to set it all up again every time you take the items out during a run, and would be an even bigger time discrepancy from runs that didn't use it. Therefore, it's much more convenient and healthier to just ban it.
There were also a few minor changes to the page:
- The region selection while submitting (with only USA/NTSC as an option) has been removed because this is a PC exclusive game, so it served zero purpose.
- The "Any%" in the category names (eg. Lexicanium Hunt Any%) has been removed as the categories already have defined names.
- The game cover art has been changed to the official vertical cover art, as it was previously stretched and cropped.
So yeah that's it! We've also been thinking about adding an all campaigns category or possibly other unique categories, but that's for another day. I hope these changes can breathe some new life into the game!
We have a Kubinashi speedrunning Discord server now! It's linked at the top of the page. Come join if you're interested!
can't submit this due to recording starting late so sharing it here
When you clear a stage for the first time, you have to wait for 9 seconds before you're back in the world hub. But after the first clear, you can quick retry after hitting the goal, then pause and exit to hub, which only takes 3-4 seconds, saving around 4:00 to 4:40 across the whole run based on execution.
In mirukono's New Game 1.01 run, they close the game after hitting the last goal of each world to skip the cutscene, and the game detects that they completed the stage without waiting the 9 seconds (Steam leaderboards also add your time as soon as you hit the goal).
So in a New Game+ run, would it be allowed to quick retry and exit after each stage? I personally see no reason why it shouldn't, and it would also set it apart from New Game more. You could just make it a rule that if you retry too quickly and don't actually clear the stage, you need to redo it or else the run doesn't count (menuing this fast shouldn't be necessary before reaching a high level).
Currently the time/score format is 1:00.xxx (1m 00s 235ms for 23520 points). Wouldn't it make more sense to be yy.xxx (23s 520ms for 23520 points)? It shows the full score, and looks much nicer in my opinion. A perfect score should be 26240 points, so it'll never reach 6 digits either.
