Yeah, I figure it's the quickest for you to verify, plus anyone new is likely to go straight to time trial anyways seeing as basically nobody knows about "Free Run" (that and the fact that the leaderboard refers to them as time trial runs anyways)
Yeah, I agree that we shouldn't include runs from modes other than time trial. That's why I always show in my video before the lap, the course settings and driving settings on the screen before you show the replay. Because also on that same screen in the top corner it says "Arcade Time Trial" whereas the other mode will show up as "Free Run".
So I think a quick and easy way to verify is to check if the runs say "Arcade Time Trial" because if they don't say that, then there is no built in track limits. That way the mods don't have to watch closely at every corner, they can just see if its done in time trial and then check if the lap is valid when they cross the finish line.
I believe that in the saved replays list they will also show up as "Time Trial" or "Free Run" which would help if someone prefers to save the replay and record it at a separate time.
But either way, I think it would be easiest for the mods if we make sure they can see that we use time trial mode so that they know the built in invalidation will take care of the track limits for them.
I didn't even realize test drive won't flag track limits. I feel like we shouldn't use test drive if it has completely disabled the lap invalidation system. Especially since the category is listed as "Time Trial: ____" (Insert track name). I think runs in test drive should either have their own leaderboard, or be put with an asterisk or something to specify it wasn't done in time trials, since the rules of test drive and time trials are completely different. It wouldn't make sense for everyone to be competing on the same leaderboard with different rules. At least that's just my thinking on it.
Fair enough, I suppose its easier than having to watch for track limits manually.
So I know that Gran Turismo isn't perfect at managing track limits, but I feel as though we have to use our own discretion on instances where the game isn't going to.
I don't know how everyone else feels about track limits but I feel like at the least, there should be an attempt to follow them. I'm all for uploading a time where the wheels just marginally cut the white lines and don't get flagged cause it's a close call. It’s fine to have a margin of error for those using a controller which isn’t as sensitive as a wheel. But I'm not overly fond of barreling through the off-road, we have designated dirt tracks for that.
I think we have to decide if track limits are going to matter on the leaderboards (especially the single lap runs) because I know a lot of people would be dissuaded from competing when they see significant track cuts. I don't want to impose all the efforts on the moderators, of having to make separate leader boards that allow for huge cuts, but I very passionately feel that track limits should be followed as if this was real life. After all Gran Turismo is "The Real Driving Simulator" and not Mario Kart.
I personally believe that the runs on the leaderboard should have a refined and professional look and feel as if it were a taken from an actual race or qualifying video, as the simulators were designed with the intention that we follow the track limits the same way the real life drivers would.
I just wanted to put this out there because I think it wouldn't hurt to all be on the same page for track limits when it comes to the instances where the game fails to invalidate laps for cutting through grass or runoffs to gain a lasting advantage.
