What's changing?

All Classic, Adventure, All Target Tests, and All Events speedruns now use a new approach for calculating total time. The SSBM speedrun IGT calculator is an easy and accurate tool to find your total.

All runs in these categories are now required to include the splits output by that tool in the description of their run.

All existing runs (current and obsolete) have had their IGT and description updated by mods to follow these new rules (example).

Game rules have been updated to guide players towards correct submissions.

Why?

The previous timing rules required manual subtraction and addition of times. While the rules brought much-needed consistency at the time, the calculation method ends up having flaws which lead to incorrect time conversions, "impossible" times, and the possibility of incorrect ranking order. It also has a high chance of human error.

This new approach solves all those issues! The accuracy of times on these leaderboards is greatly improved, and we'll maintain this higher standard going forward.

A few recent mod changes to announce:

• [May 25] Nordanix has chosen to step down, citing his lessened recent involvement and being busy with other things. I'd like to acknowledge his contributions over the years - from the history I can see he has been very helpful with many verifications, rule changes, and other discussions. Thank you Nordanix!
• [May 29] Judge has joined us. Judge is a high-level BtT player who naturally has good judgment. He's interested in helping with things like verifications and leaderboard maintenance.
• [June 1] Olivia_ssb has also joined us. Olivia is a skilled veteran in Events and All Trophies modes. She's interested to help with long run verifications and projects to spur player activity.

I got a notification today that the YouTube video associated with https://www.speedrun.com/ssbm/runs/mk3wq3xz "is at risk of being deleted by YouTube", with a link to this article to learn more. I don't see why a YouTube video would be at risk. Is it an SRC bug to be warning about non-Twitch videos?
