Unfortunately, my streaming laptop is pretty much unable to livestream anymore due to it having some issues and those issues causing it to crash, therefore I may have to think of a workaround to how InstaSpeedathon 2018 will go ahead.
I do not want to cancel this event as there have now been quite a few submissions, and all of them do look like games I would like to feature in the marathon, therefore, unless I get a better setup or can get back to streaming on my current setup, a different way to host this marathon will have to go ahead.
I will keep everyone up to date on news in relation to this. If you have any queries about this, please don't hesitate to let me know (you can reply to this thread with any queries you may have)

**What is InstaSpeedathon?**
InstaSpeedathon is an online speedrunning marathon with the aim to showcase games and speedrunners. We may also raise money for charity, though this is still to be decided.

**Where will this marathon take place?**
For InstaSpeedathon 2018, the marathon will be taking place on my personal Twitch Channel (https://www.twitch.tv/instasim), although if the marathon proves successful this time around, I may consider making a dedicated channel for future InstaSpeedathon marathons.

**When will the marathon take place?**
The current proposed dates are 26-28th of February 2018, though please bare in mind these are currently only provisional and are subject to change closer to the event itself. Best practice is to keep an eye on this page in case of any changes to the schedule of the marathon. We may change the dates to host the event earlier (though this is unlikely), later or to make the event longer depending on the demand for spaces.

**How do I submit a run?**
Submissions will open on the 16th of October (at 12pm GMT). At which point, you may submit a run for the marathon. Submissions will close on the 17th of December (at 12pm GMT) so that I (and other moderators if there are more) may review the submitted runs and set up the schedule, therefore please make sure to submit your run as early as possible.

**Which games can we submit?**
Generally, I have no restrictions on which games you can submit, though I do have time restrictions which I will make a note of in another thread about Game Submissions.

**Do I need Discord to take part?**
You will need Discord to take part in this marathon. This way I can speak to the marathon runners directly and the runners may to others they wish to have on stream with them as well. This way you will also be audible during the stream. I will be posting a link to the Discord in due course once everything is set up for the marathon.

**Can we submit races?**
For this year, I am afraid to say that I cannot allow races, though this does not mean that I am ruling out races completely. I really like to see a good speedrunning race, though it will not be possible for me to host a race for this year's marathon.

**So now I've read this entire thread, what should I do now?**

If you are interested in taking part in this marathon, practice, practice, practice. Though I'm not really on the lookout for the best of the best of speedrunners, I am looking for progress and consistency, so make sure to practice your speedrun before you submit your run, and definitely before you are due to take part in the marathon itself.

**Following your "Some unfortunate news" thread, will the marathon still go ahead?**
Yes. As far as I am aware, the marathon will continue, however, due to issues with my setup which are out of my control, I may not be able to stream the marathon. The original plan was to have myself capturing the runner's stream of their own run, or, if necessary, to stream a pre-recorded run by the runner. If I am unable to stream, however, then I will, instead, be hosting the runner on my Twitch Channel. I will, probably, still be able to use Discord in order to communicate with the runner, however the stream itself is still uncertain, although I will keep everyone up to date with news

Aranos 2 in Any% is really difficult. Could someone please guide me on how to do the strat with the Decoy Glove on the grav ramp on the second Ratchet section? I'm having quite a lot of difficulty getting it to work

From watching a few RaC1 Any% and AGB runs, there appears to be a visual clue in Orxon 1 which makes it more consistent to push Clank through the wall. I have tried to see what this visual clue is from the runs, but I can't seem to apply it myself. From what I've seen, you place Clank on the left-most side of the tree, and you are watching the tree sway to the left, and just as it's about to sway to the right, you jump through. However, when I try to apply this myself, it doesn't seem to work (I have and will be practicing it to try and get this skip consistent for myself as well).

I have tried to look around for a consistent setup so that I can try to perform this strat, but it has been to no avail, however if someone could possibly update me on the setup for the strat, I would be very grateful indeed :)

In the Games Dropdown on the top of the page (the "Games" link), if you've followed a lot of games, then not all of them show on the screen, however would it be possible to add a scroll bar feature to make it possible to see all the Games you've followed on your screen easily. It would make it much easier to see all the games you are followed to, in my opinion. Sorry if this isn't where I'm supposed to put suggestions, I couldn't find a specific forum for suggestions and wanted to make this suggestion for the site.

**PLEASE BE SURE TO SUBMIT YOUR RUN BEFORE THE DEADLINE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE.**

The link to the submission form will appear on the left sidebar from the 16th of October. Submissions will be processed through through the speedrun.com submission form.

Please make sure to check your availability for the marathon prior to submitting. Unfortunately, I will not be able to host the event over 24-hours, therefore please make sure that you are available between 9am and 10pm (GMT) on the day of your run. If you are not available, then I advise that you do not submit a run for this event. It is likely in future that the event will run over 24-hours, though for now it will not be possible.


[section=Rules for submitting]
- Only submit your own run for the marathon. Submitting someone else's run will lead to an automatic DQ
- Make sure to allow some time in your submission for inconsistencies or strat failures. Likewise, do not be excessive with your leeway. Around 10 minutes should be enough to allow for mistakes. You do not need to include setup time as this will be added by myself
- Please do not submit excessively long runs. Longer runs will, essentially, mean less runs during the event, therefore any excessively long runs will be denied. Maximum of about 3 hours per run would be a decent amount
- Please do not submit races to this event. As much as I like a good speed race, unfortunately I won't be able to allow for races for the event this time around. This is likely to change in the future, but for InstaSpeedathon 2018, races will not be allowed.
- Make sure that you submit a decent run. It doesn't have to be a PB run, but it does have to be a decent run showcasing good movement techniques and strategies. You also do not have to be the WR holder for the game you want to submit, just make sure that you know the speedrun well enough to submit a run


[section=Successful Runs]
If your submission is successful, please make sure to check the schedule for when your run is planned for. If you are unable to participate during your chosen time slot, please let me know ASAP (A thread will be made in advance for this). That way I can arrange for your run to be either rescheduled for the marathon. Likewise, if you'd like for your run to be removed from the schedule, please let me know so that I can arrange for another runner to take the available time slot. The deadline for Schedule changes will be Mid-February 2017. If after this time you notify me that you are unavailable, your run will be removed from the event and we will not be able to reschedule any alternative runners to take your place in the marathon.

Not sure if this is possible at current (I do not believe it is) but would it be possible to implement a way that your leaderboard position is affected by certain variables.

For example: If a level has a certain amount of points you can get (let's say 1000) and someone gets 700 points, then their leaerboard position would be lower than someone who gets 1000 points, but if someone who has 700 points has completed a run in 30 minutes would be higher up the leaderboard than someone who has completed in 35 minutes.

I'm unsure if it would be possible to implement something like this, but it's just a suggestion if it isn't currently a feature

Initial Cuts have now been made for Instaspeedathon 2018. This is by no means the final cuts as of yet, although I would like to know of people's availability to make the schedule. Cuts for the Instapeedathon 2018 are marked under Phase 1 in the Sumited runs section
The marathon is planned to run over 2 or 3 consecutive days (provisionally 26th - 28th of February). Each day will be streaming from 9am to around 10pm (GMT) therefore, for the schedule, please check your availability between these times in your own timezones.
I would also like to announce that I have sorted out the Discord server for Instaspeedathon. Please bare in mind that anyone can join the server, although you may only have access to the Instaspeedathon channel if you are taking part. This will also be used for me to communicate with the runner during the marathon.
If your run is moved up to Phase 1, please reply to this thread with which times you are available to take part, with reference to the times I have mentioned above. I will then be able to sort out the schedule for the marathon. Likewise, if your run is in Phase 1 and you are unable to take part, please let me know ASAP so that I can make alternate arrangements.

EDIT -- I would also like to add, if anyone has any Donation Incentives they would like to have on their run, please let me know as a reply. There are some individuals who think it's funny to post troll submissions to this marathon. Whereas I have found some to be quite funny myself, I am not going to be putting up with it any longer. Any troll submissions which are found from now onward will be removed from the submitted runs
