Thanks for researching this after our discussion of my hunch on my recent stream, the very nicely detailed video, and for creating this post :)

My thoughts are that its more of a convenience rather than an advantage, simply because of the ease of access that people have to the various versions of this game. I really don't think there should be separate categories based on what version of the game you are running on. The scoreboard will become cluttered with even more categories that probably aren't necessary. I do not think it is necessary to change the leaderboards personally, but at the very most, I think we should add which version of the game that was used to the scoreboard (6-pak, Original Cart, etc.), which seems to be somewhat common in other games like on the N64 for example, where they specify whether the US of JP version of a cartridge was used. I think this will make it apparent to those who would like take their speedrunning of this game a bit more seriously to consider using the 6-pak to avoid the RNG at these points.

Well said, NoControl. I agree with all you mentioned above.

Only thing I really have to add is that you can probably run this on an emulator too if you like! We have people in our community who have submit runs on emulator. Also you mentioned that you give your friends a month to learn this game. I'd say a month of solid practice from picking this game up as a casual player can get you to Sub 10. Getting sub 9 in just a month of practice seems like a stretch to me. Take this with a grain of salt though, since I started sped running this game with having a pretty solid understanding of the game and its mechanics.

Let us know if you have any more questions :)

Thank you very much Garland :) Sorry, I just saw this now, I really appreciate it! Pretty happy with an 8:33. As you can see mistakes were made :P Thanks to nerves, as well as having to play on a CRT TV, when I'm normally used to playing on my LED monitor at home. It made the double-downstab visual cue that I use in level 3 slightly different, and that mixed with nerves basically made me screw it up haha. Few other small mistakes due to shaky thumbs, but overall happy with how it went :) Thanks for the kind words Garland!

Thanks you very much Steve, I really appreciate the kind words :) We as a community have been able to push these times down to pretty crazy levels, yourself included, so thank you as well! I guess i'll take this time to thank everyone who has been active in this community for finding new ways to push this game to its limits. Cheers everyone :) Lets keep it up!

I like the idea of having more precise timing, but I also agree with Jesse in that if we need to break a tie, then it is absolutely necessary to count frames. Also in the case where a PB may be too close to call. Otherwise, it should be up to the person submitting the run to give as specific of a time as they like!
