I have a question regarding the part of the rules that states "all emulator runs must be the JPN version and must show the emulator window in the VOD." I noticed most runs include the emulation window and toolbar during the whole run. I have tried to setup SNES9X in OBS using both Window Capture and Game Capture, and neither of these will show the whole window. The only way I am aware of to get the toolbar in the full recording is to do a Fullscreen Capture, which typically bogs down my emulator and makes it choppy.

  1. Would it be okay do to runs using Game/Window capture (no bar present) for the majority of the run, but then swap to Fullscreen on completion to prove the emulator used? I normally do this for most SNES runs and will include an example below.

  2. If it's not acceptable to show the bar/emulator version only after a run, is there a better way to record gameplay and have that bar fully present without doing Fullscreen capture? Because as I mentioned, Fullscreen recording has a very noticeable effect on my PC and emulator's performance.

Just wanted to reach out and see what is acceptable before I grind against this RNG for a run. Last but not least, here's an example of how I usually show the emulator/version after a run: Hopefully this is acceptable but if not please let me know. Thanks!

Yeah sounds like the current system will hopefully work with any strats you guys bring in! If not, I imagine the timing could easily be revised. GL GL

Just a heads up, I've made slight changes to the timing of both 100% and House%. I did this for two reasons:

  1. The old start timing for both categories was "when the moving truck appeared". This seemed a bit vague. This could be the first frame where any part of the truck is visible, to the first frame the truck is fully visible. I've now seen runs where the cutscene is skipped as quick as possible, and where the truck is waited for.

  2. The old end timing for House% stated "time ends when the final victory song begins". Anyone who has used most frame-counting programs knows when you're going frame-by-frame through a video, a visual is much easier to keep things consistent. Unless I use video editing software like Sony Vegas to verify every House% run, I'd have to roughly guess which frame a sound begins on.

The new timings are listed under the rules for each category. This should keep timings consistent, and prevent confusion moving forward. Last but not least, I have adjusted House% times if they needed to be. Beneath I've listed each previous time, and the new frame-counted time for House%:

renegaderetro - 38:58 - 38:57.733

stuffisstuff - 41:12 - 41:11.400

RetroGhoulie - 58:40 - 58:40.033

I've recently been doing some Battle Royal Solo runs for SNES, and I wanted to ask a question: Would it be okay to use Retroarch for netplay co-op attempts? I want to do some runs with a friend of mine from Twitch, but obviously real-life attempts will not be possible. We would use the SNES9X core/emulator, unless there is another one mods prefer.

I figure this would be fine since the Arcade WR uses Fightcade 2, which is similar to Retroarch in that it makes netplay much easier. I wanted to check to make sure though.

Oh I'm still very interested in what people think, and would like to see more opinions on the idea. I still feel this is better than Points%. But I also don't want to put too many categories out there, and diminish the value of podium places. Points% cannot be replaced, because I already created it and that would be unfair to those who have put in work on the category. Perhaps this could be a miscellaneous category. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Very true Cardinality. I think if I could go back in time, I would revise Points% to something more akin to this, where the clock stops immediately on X points being obtained. I do agree it's similar to Points%, but I also believe "X Points" would've been a better category overall. Every other category already requires running out the game clock, and that's the worst part of any sports speedrun. This would've been unique, but also I think it may be a bit late since Points% already exists.
