I think the category should exist, only if someone runs it.
How far along is the strategy? Last I checked, the mission skips in Jade Falcon and Wolf campaigns are :
- Starmate skip, which can only skip missions where you have a starmate. This should be a new category if someone runs it.
- Manually corrupting save files, which shouldn't be a category. It should be against the game rules, as it modifies files before the game launches.
That makes sense. I have a pile of old hardware and can easily run the game with it, but this is a good way to keep performance consistent between runners.
"The game must be run in windowed mode via dxwnd or similar software"
What is the purpose of this rule?
A "100%" Mercenary Commander run would simply be a skipless run, and wouldn't be different enough from 100% Mercenary for it to matter. You can't even complete all the missions in a single Mercenary Commander run, as there are diverging paths in the mission sequence.
Mercenary Commander Any% exists as a glitch showcase, beating the game as fast as possible using every glitch available.
Mercenary 100% completes every mission in its sequence, disabling glitches that skip missions and demonstrating far more gameplay.
We have a channel in the MechWarrior 2 Discord. We don't need more than that. https://discord.gg/M6PXF35
Problem with adding the mechlab is it makes resets more tedious. Exit mission menu, go to mechlab, exit mechlab, go to mission menu. Hacked mechs will be obvious in the run, and shouldn't need the extra verification.
Correcting myself : A post-run mech validation can be performed by selecting REPLAY, exiting the mission menu, and going to the mechlab. The previously used mech will be shown.
The idea for Mercenary 100% was to run through all the campaign missions with no method or exploit to skip them.
All mission skipping methods should be illegal.
All movement exploits (power sliding) should be legal.
Mercenary would be a True 100%.
It's not glitchless because S-Gliding (MechWarrior 2 guide calls it PowerSlide) should be legal in this category.
Page faults or other exploits to skip missions should be illegal in this category.
Edit: If you trust me, you can give me mod privileges and I can setup the categories how I like and make future changes. I'm still exploring what can be done with this game.
Between Mercenary and Mercenary Commander, I propose a Mercenary Commander Any% category for a fast glitched category, and a Mercenary category for a long 100%-esque category.
