Glitchless category
Ukraine

I would really love to see a Glitchless category for Unleashed Recompiled, both for full game runs and individual levels. Any% is definitely fun and exciting, but I personally prefer to play within the boundaries set by the game and achieve success that way, rather than flying through walls. Just my opinion—hope it doesn't offend anyone. I did a small run on Eggmanland myself.; it's unlikely to become any significant record, but I gave it my best. I hope this suggestion gets some attention.

. Sorry if I'm not expressing myself clearly—English is not my first language.

Makes sense though, would be cool to see this category be its own thing!

I completely agree with this thread

Writing here again after a couple of months — I managed to slightly improve my time by minimizing unintentional damage and optimizing my actions a bit. The new result is 9:34.860, compared to the previous 9:59.300. I recorded the run quite a while ago, but didn’t have the time to publish it anywhere.

I also carefully reread the rules listed on the site for the game and noticed the part about mods affecting customization being prohibited. I had HD character models installed — bruh. I’ll keep that in mind for the future, although I personally don’t agree that purely cosmetic mods that don’t change gameplay should be banned. Why are they allowed in some games but not here?

Also, I forgot to enable the FPS counter. The game is locked to 60 FPS anyway thanks to V-Sync, but of course no one just takes your word for it, right?) I’ll need to remember that next time too.

What else can I add — it's unlikely this category will get its own leaderboard anytime soon, so I guess anyone who wants to share their results can just post them here in this thread. Why not? Personally, it took me a lot of time to determine that Eggmanland has only ever been completed glitchless in about 9:25 max — and even that info is pretty vague. At least this way there’ll be some kind of record.

Anyway, here’s my “non-professional” run. Have a good day/night!

I see the Glitchless category as very necessary for those speedrunners who are talented but don't know how or also do Glitchless Runs (Like me, I do Glitched and Glitchless runs)

I completely agree with and support this thread. Lets make this a full on movement to make the moderators add a glitchless category for Unleashed! Ill be uploading my best glitchless runs here from now on, treating it as if it were a glitchless category in itself, to hopefully revive this thread!

I feel like a glitchless wouldn't be added but probably a basic run because of how simple QSS is to perform (basic run for day sonic is just no m/d-speed and break jump glitch and night is no gtw and flying wherehog) but I'm all for either being added as I feel like it would make the game look more approachable for new people who don't want to or have a lot of trouble with m/d-speed and Gtw

Portugal

I think it would be a welcome category. It would be useful for players who don't like skipping parts of a stage and for those who have difficulty performing m-speed/d-speed and so, it wouldn’t discourage them from submitting their run. But the question is: what would the rules be? I think everyone agrees on banning m-speed/d-speed and going out of bounds, but what about QSS? It’s also considered a speed glitch, even though it’s easy to perform. Also what about drifting in areas where it's not supposed to be allowed? And pausing in automated sections to save time? Needs a through discussion and willingness from the moderators.

For glichless obviously QSS would be banned but I feel like it would end up being basic runs rather than glichless. Like you said QSS is stupid easy to perform so i feel like the mods knowing that wouldn't have it the category be glichless rather basic.

In my opinion, there should be three categories:

Glitchless

Basic

With Glitches

Basic would use QSS and abuse of basic mechanics (Like QuickStomp), while glitched would use advanced mechanics like M-Speed and D-Speed.

Glitchless would play normally, like an average player, but using shortcuts and ways to save time.

I know it's stupid what I'm saying, but could I balance the speedrunners according to their skill level

When I created this thread, I was thinking exclusively about an option where only mechanics and tools are used that any first-time player could realistically figure out on their own. Things that don’t require watching other people’s runs, analyzing them, or learning specific tactics and routing strategies — a максимально isolated experience from the speedrunning community, which is basically how it was for me. I’m not a speedrunner, and I know almost nothing about that community. I was simply so fed up during my 100% playthrough of Unleashed — especially with the hot dog missions in Eggmanland — that I set myself a personal goal: to beat it as fast as possible so that on all future replays I wouldn’t even have to notice that level. As should be clear from the above, I figured out the level structure and time-saving methods on my own, just by playing the game. The result of those experiments were two runs that are posted in this thread. So my position is simple: no going out of bounds defined by the developers, no glitch flying through half the level, no speed glitches even if they are easy to perform, and no pausing during QTEs. To be even more precise, you can look at my two Eggmanland runs — preferably the second one. Everything used there, I consider legal because I came up with it myself. And if something isn’t there, that means I didn’t manage to discover it within a week of my life — which implies it’s already some kind of serious routing or setup that doesn’t belong here. I’m also in favor of allowing mods that only customize Sonic’s model, because come on — they don’t affect physics, collisions, or any gameplay nuances, but they massively help diversify the otherwise very repetitive experience of running the same levels over and over. I’ve taken a short break from the game for now, but I think I’ll return to it soon. I’ll continue running Eggmanland; the other daytime stages don’t really interest me much, since they aren’t very difficult and time saves without glitches there rarely exceed 5–10 seconds. As for the Werehog stages, I might think about those, because unlike Sonic, there are actually quite a lot of tools there to save time. And honestly, I like the Werehog gameplay much more than Sonic’s —I’m just a bit of a specific kind of person.

Update: I rewatched my second Eggmanland run and want to add that the only thing not shown there is using stomp on the conveyor belts. I discovered this a bit later, and I don’t have any good footage of it, but since I figured it out on my own, I’d also consider it legal.

And yes, the most important thing — I forgot to mention it earlier. I want to express my huge gratitude to everyone who cares about this topic and took the time to pay attention to this thread, which I originally created mostly as a joke, without expecting anything serious to come out of it. It genuinely means a lot to me to see people from all over the world being interested in it.

I rarely communicate on the “international” internet because my English is not very strong, so I’m doubly happy that this discussion managed to grow and move forward. I’d also like to apologize if my messages sound a bit mechanical or unnatural. As I said, my English isn’t very good, and I often rely on translators or AI, so I can’t always fully judge how accurately they convey what I originally mean. I hope this doesn’t make my writing too difficult to understand.

i just got a super fast run on Empire city act 1 Day without any glitches and tbh it kinda annoys me that their isn't a glitchless category for speed runs especially for a game like this which rewards learning the game mechanics and memorizing stages. Here's my run if anyone wants to see :

I decided to try WI Act 2 glitchless for fun and end up playing for like 30minutes, this run reminds me when i started learning how to speedrun unleashed

Personally, I feel like Restricted and Unrestricted is more beneficial. QSS is easy to do, M-Speed and D-Speed are not. I prefer seeing games played in-bounds, too, but I see a Restricted category being more enforceable over Glitchless outright. That's just my two cents, though.

Personally, I'm not interested in learning or using any bugs, glitches, or exploits in the game. I want to do runs as cleanly as possible, without relying on things like that. That's why I'm exclusively in favor of Glitchless. Just my opinion.
