You don't need a timer on the video to run the game. As long as you time the run at some point, and have an accurate time, everything should be fine.

The mods retime all runs so don't worry about submitting with a perfectly accurate time.

I ran BotW and was unable to record the switch, but set my phone up where you could easily see the tv screen and it was fine.
