Advice regarding 25th Anniversary

1. in Settings -> Controls switch from "Enhanced" to "Classic", otherwise RMB will count as selection and skip at the same time

2. Use both the spacebar and the RMB to skip animations, transitions and dialogues. 

3. Force disable VSync. For Nvidia users that is in NVidia Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Manage 3D Settings -> Program Settings ->  Either select the game from dropdown, or add it with the "Add" button -> Vertical Sync set to OFF

4. Use R button to reset puzzles
5. Use M to open and close the map

Make sure to show the intro in your video (you can skip through it even on No Skips because it's before the timer starts). And be aware that this game has bugs if you play in open house mode and then try to start a new game without closing the game.

1. With the goal of 'fastest solution' in mind, the object should be to rearrange the letters using
the fewest exchanges possible.

Since the solution really depends on each can being in the correct location, the puzzle can actually 
be broken down into 33 conditions which must be met - the position of each can.  The quickest way to 
solve would be if the puzzle began in the same order as the solution, so we'll first compare all the 
cans that satisfy that condition.  The format of words, including spaces, will be disregarded in the 
interest of simplicity

Fewest clicks for Crypt and Gallery

If you want to solve the crypt or the gallery puzzle with the fewest clicks, the same method applies, but it's a bit trickier for the gallery.

In fact, for both puzzles, I will explain in what circumstance it is required to click the center, a given corner, or a given edge. Then you just click on those, possibly twice.

Every piece has a solving-pattern that you need to know. So up to rotation, you need to know three solving-patterns. Do not confuse those with the patterns you get from clicking on them.

IN THEORY:

CENTER:

The solving-pattern for the center piece is:

IN PRACTICE:

Solving the edges and the center is a LOT easier than solving the corners. So solve the center and the edges first, then click all the edge coffins that are open.

IN PRACTICE:

Solve the center and the corners first, then click the green edges once, the red edges twice.

Don't think in numbers. Think ONLY in colours and abuse properties of mod 3 calculations, like 0=1+1+1=2+2+2=1+2=2+1. In other words, the following patterns cancel each other out (when in a 1-Position):

- 3 green pieces
- 3 red pieces
- a red and a green piece.

Furthermore: 0=1x2+1x1 =2x2+2x1 =Ax2+Ax1 In other words, a piece in the 2-Position will cancel with a piece in the 1-Position of the same colour.

Finally, as it comes up all the time: 2+2=1, 1+1=2. That means 2 red pieces behave like a green piecee, 2 green pieces behave like a red one.

Guessing the last corner:
When the center and all corners are done, the center piece must be a skin piece, because only edges need to be pressed afterwards.
In other words, when the center and EXACTLY 3 out of 4 corners are solved, the number of clicks in the final corner IS the center colour.

Guessing when all corner are set:
When the center is set, and all corners are done, the center piece must be skin. Therefore, when setting the corners and the centerpiece is SKIN, quickly check if the edges are solvable. That is trivial if (at least) one of the edges is SKIN colour. If not, ONLY the following patterns are possible, up to symmetry:

When you use the book to solve a puzzle for you, when it says "The puzzle is solved" just turn away from the book instead of going into it, this generally saves you from watching a cutscene. You can also menu skip out of the book, which should take 8 seconds instead of 10 seconds.

The optional puzzles in the original game are: spiders, heart maze, and cards. (if you're doing 25th annv then you're in the wrong guide, but microscope is optional in that game)

Advanced Route = if you're brave enough to solve the doll room puzzle, this is the route, it saves about 2m30s

Turning priorities in relevant rooms

Question: When you have 2 options to turn to the door, is the animation for turning left or right shorter?

Results

Doll Room: Same number of frames!
Nursery: Same number of frames
Library: Right is shorter
Heine: Right is shorter
Temple: Right is shorter (1 Frame)
Game: Left is shorter
Burden: Left is shorter (1 Frame)
Knox: Left is shorter
Bathroom: Left is shorter
Dutton: Right is shorter
Lab: Left is shorter (right is 3 clicks)

Method: Tested by recording the turning in 25th anniversary. Assuming reverse animation is same speed. 1-Frame differences *might* be down to rendering issues in 25th anniversary.

Short: Always left, except in Library, Heine, Temple, Dutton's room

turning speeds for each room and other timings

if you're using the book to skip a puzzle, these can add up because you have to do it 3 times

music room facing the piano -
left = 5sec
right = 6sec

library facing the book -
left = 7sec
right = 7sec

doll room puzzle
changing a column - 4.2sec
changing a row - 3.6sec

skipping telescope vs solving it from entering room to menu warping back in
