# Personal Items [self]

![](/static/blob/3nvjdkvn.png)ライター (Kazuo's Lighter)

Burns rope barriers, lights Blue Candles, damages certain enemies (Maggots, Skull Snake)

![](/static/blob/5ngovqje.png)くすりばこ (Akiko's Medicine Case)/+Kit/Remedy

Heals status ailments. It can even dispel curses, somehow.

![](/static/blob/rz28x1oz.png)カメラ (Taguchi's Camera)

Gets messages from frescoes, damages certain enemies (Bats, Grim Reaper, Skull Ghost)

![](/static/blob/pzmdv84z.png)ぞうじき (Asuka's Vacuum Cleaner)

Removes glass shards, cleans dust from frescoes.

![](/static/blob/7z30gogz.png)カギ (Emi's Key)

Unlocks certain doors.

# Substitute Items [sub]

![](/static/blob/dz4vp1mz.gif)まっち (Matches)

Does more damage to enemies that are weak to Kazuo's Lighter.

![](/static/blob/rz28rgoz.gif)クッキー (Cookies)/Pills

Functions identically to Akiko's Medkit.

Probably the most confusing item, identity wise. The prototype and instruction manual depict this item as a single cookie, but its sprite in the final game is a pack of multiple cookies.

![](/static/blob/pzmdkr4z.gif)ほうき (Broom)

Functions like Asuka's Vacuum. Plays the standard item sound, which is shorter than Asuka's Vacuum. Plays no sound at all when cleaning a fresco.

![](/static/blob/yzr57krn.gif)ポラロイド (Polaroid Camera)/Camera

Does more damage to enemies that are weak to Taguchi's Camera.

I guess rebranding this camera to Fuji, Kodak or something for the sake of giving it a different name from Taguchi's Camera wouldn't have worked.

![](/static/blob/5ngoml7e.gif)はりがね (Wire)

Functions identically to Emi's key.

If character space wasn't so limited, "Lock pick" would work as a name for this item.

# Items [items] [item]

![](/static/blob/qzpwd1xe.gif)くすりびん (Medicine bottle)/Tonic

Restores the current party's HP and pray points to full, including members who joined the battle from calls.

Naming this item "Tonic" kind of reminds me of the SNES translation of [Final Fantasy VI](https://www.speedrun.com/ff6).

![](/static/blob/5e18mr6n.gif)ボロボロのいた (Worn Out Board)/Wood

Bridges a gap. Can be stepped on 5 times before it breaks.

Deals damage to Cursed Doll, Earth Man and Decomposed Body

![](/static/blob/oeowdpkz.gif)じょうぶないた (Sturdy Board)/Wood/Board

Bridges a gap. Can be stepped on 100 times before it breaks.

In the Gaijin translation, this strong board was named identically to the weak wood. In the prototype and 2016 translation, it's colored the same as weak woods. I don't fully agree with that change, but that's just me.

Deals damage to Cursed Doll, **Earth Man** and Decomposed Body

![](/static/blob/3ek0123n.gif)ハンマー (Hammer)/Mallet

Breaks rocks, mirrors and certain walls like the one in West Inner Sanctuary, and the one in the dungeon's coffin room.

Deals damage to **Mirror**, **Wall Face**, **Mad Dog**, Skeleton and Wolf

It was renamed "Mallet" probably so it can use the double letter tile "ll" to save character space.

![](/static/blob/1n5410je.gif)あおいライト (Blue Light)/F-Lite/F-Light

Destroys red shadow barriers.

![](/static/blob/xz082mmn.gif)まるた (Log)

Bridges gaps in the lake. A minimum of three logs is required.

Deals damage to **Earth Man/Grave/Risen**, **Half-Body Man/Zombie/Torso** and Decomposed Body/Corpse. Crucial for taking out a **Half-Body Man** early in the game.

![](/static/blob/kzw1j72n.gif)ロープ (Rope)

Use it to get the team across large gaps. Also rescues characters from sand traps in the dungeon.

Makes short work of **Armors**.

![](/static/blob/xzd1k65z.gif)しょうっかい (Fire Extinguisher)/Fire X/Fire-X

Puts out all the fire in a room. Gone after one use in the overworld. The fire in the basement's main room is immune to this.

Deals damage to Disembodied Soul/Wisp/Ghost and **Living Spirit/Bane/Wraith**. One of the very few item weaknesses that actually outclass prayers by the time you would normally encounter enemies that are weak to them.

![](/static/blob/1n541oqe.gif)あんぜんくつ (Safety Shoes)/Boots

Prevents the team from getting stuck on sticky floors.

![](/static/blob/1n7lk87e.gif)まさかり (Broad Axe)/Ax/Axe

Chops down wood pieces that stand in your way in the lake.

![](/static/blob/7n69oj4n.gif)ボーガン (Bow Gun)/Bow

Functions like the Rope, in that it crosses long gaps, but it has 2 tiles more range. Required to reach the other side of the Veranda leading to West Inner Sanctuary.

You would think this item can pierce through a lot of the biological beings, but it can only damage Mad Dog and Wolf.

![](/static/blob/rnq7d92e.gif)てつのぼう (Rod of Iron)/Pipe

Deals damage to Earth Man/Grave/Risen, Half-Body Man/Zombie/Torso and **Decomposed Body/Corpse**.

I think the Pipe is used to conserve pray points for the memorial tower puzzle. You probably won't need this if you do a lot of safety grinding. If I was in charge of a Sweet Home ROM Hack or translation, I would have this sprite edited to resemble the Pipe from the Streets of Rage series.

![](/static/blob/7e902m3e.gif)ぐんて (Cotton Work Gloves)/Gloves

Prevents the team from taking damage from thorns in the lake.

You would normally have the HP to tank a good amount of terrain damage by this point in the game.

![](/static/blob/ynl0od0n.gif)ピッケル (Ice Axe)/Pick

Use to safely walk on water and ice. It ensures the team doesn't get separated from each other. Required to return from the room that leads to Ichirou's study.

![](/static/blob/7z30gl4z.gif)ローソク (Candlestick)/Wax [Candle]

Illuminates a small portion of a dark area around the team.

Deals damage to Maggots.

![](/static/blob/qny56r4z.gif)かたみのふく (Memento Dress)/Dress

Can be used an infinite number of times to restore pray points.

The dress seen in the instruction manual more closely resembles the dress as seen in the movie.

![](/static/blob/4zjop05n.gif)かっしゃ (Wheelchair)/Pulley

Gives the team faster movement. While this item is active, the team's step duration is reduced from 10 frames to 8 frames.

I agree with The Siege's name suggestions for this item. "Pulley" makes me think of those hooks you can grab onto in [Sonic Adventure 2](https://www.speedrun.com/sa2b).

![](/static/blob/1n84029e.gif)あおいローソク (Blue Candle)

Place these on the three statues in the Inner Sanctuary, then light them up with Kazuo's Lighter or Matches.

Deals damage to Zombie/Ghoul and **Upside Down Zombie/Ghoul**.

![](/static/blob/xzd1k5pz.gif)すいしょうだま (Crystal Ball)/Gem

Extinguishes the blue flame in the basement.

Deals damage to any enemy.

# Key Items [key] [imp]

![](/static/blob/3nvjd8dn.gif)ガソリン (Gasoline Container)/Gas

Use to turn on the Generator and gain access to the north part of the house.

![](/static/blob/dz4vp3mz.gif)なわばしご (Rope Ladder)/Ladder

Use this on a pair of pegs so you can descend to the lower floor in the Courtyard.

Makes short work of **Copper Armors**. If hacked into your inventory, Silver Armor/Knight is immune to this, though.

![](/static/blob/wzxo8m7z.gif)ばけつ (Bucket)/Pail

Pour blood from the fountain onto the green statue blocking the path to the lake.

![](/static/blob/rz28r9oz.gif)スコップ (Shovel)

Dig up the Low Key in the lake and give it to the archaeologist in the basement by talking to him.

![](/static/blob/pzmdkx4z.gif)よろいのやり (Spear of the Armor)/Armor [Spear]/Knight [Spear]

Withdraw this spear from one knight and give it to the other knight to open the entrance to the garden.

![](/static/blob/yzr57lrn.gif)にっきのカギ (Key to the Diary)/Diary [Key]

Use to unlock the diary so you can read it, granting you the ability to push blue statues. The key goes away after unlocking the Diary. Reading the Diary isn't required, you just need to unlock it.

![](/static/blob/5ngom17e.gif)ヒスイのゆびわ (Ring of Jade)/Jade [Ring]

Show one of the two rings with both of them in the leader's inventory to Ichirou's guard, so he will let you through.

![](/static/blob/rz28r9dz.gif)ルビーのゆびわ (Ring of Ruby)/Ruby [Ring]

Show one of the two rings with both of them in the leader's inventory to Ichirou's guard, so he will let you through.

![](/static/blob/pzmdkxyz.gif)スライド (Projector Slide)/Slide

Use to make the family picture appear in the projector. There are three slides.

# Keys [keys]

![](/static/blob/yzr57ldn.gif)ちかしつのカギ (Key to the Basement)/Low [Key]

Unlocks most doors in the basement. Exceptions include the door blocked by a statue, and the incinerator room's exit. No longer required when you can reach West Inner Sanctuary.

I like how this was abbreviated as "Low", since a basement is normally in a lower tier of a building.

![](/static/blob/5ngom16e.gif)2コのカギ (Two of the Keys)/Two [Key]/Twin [Key]

Unlocks many doors in the mansion. No longer required after unlocking the door to the room in the courtyard with a Blue Candle and the Photo.

![](/static/blob/qzpwdq1e.gif)きんのカギ (Key of Gold)/Gold [Key]

Unlocks the door to the projector room. No longer required after gathering all three Slide pieces.

![](/static/blob/5e18mqqn.gif)てつのカギ (Key of Iron)/Iron [Key]

Opens two gates in the dungeon, as well as a door on the 1st Floor that leads to the courtyard.

# Final Boss Items [boss]

![](/static/blob/oeowd62z.gif)どぐう (Clay Figurine)/Tool/Amulet/Talisman

Pushing a blue statue into the fountain reveals this item. Use to reveal the stairs to the basement.

Deals damage to any enemy.

Final Boss Item #1. Use it against Mamiya's 1st phase after she threatens to kill you.

![](/static/blob/3ek01wkn.gif)しゃしん (Family Photograph)/Photo

Show this to Lady Mamiya.

Final Boss Item #2. It can be used on the same turn as the Amulet, followed by a prayer of any points on the turn after the Photo is used.

![](/static/blob/xz082g4n.gif)にっき (Ichirou's Diary)

Read this to Lady Mamiya.

Final Boss Item #3. Use it against Mamiya's 2nd phase after a white screen flash from regular attacks, followed by prayer of at least 50 points on the turn after this item is used.

The Diary can't be put into your inventory until you meet Lady Mamiya in her bedroom.

![](/static/blob/kzw1jxrn.gif)こどものひつ (Child's Coffin)/Coffin

Show the baby inside of this coffin to Lady Mamiya to calm her down.

Final Boss Item #4. Use it against Mamiya's 2nd phase after a white screen flash from regular attacks the second time around, followed by a prayer of at least 80 points on the turn after this item is used.

# Weapons [wep]

Biological Damage/Spiritual Damage

Biological enemies move onto the screen. Spiritual enemies fade into the screen.

くだものナイフ (Fruit Knife)/Fruit [Knife]

03/00

ぎんのナイフ (Knife of Silver)/Silver [Knife]/Rune [Knife]

00/04

JMN might have changed this to Rune by mistake.

とびだしナイフ (Switchblade)/Shiv/Switch [Knife]

20/08

ひかるナイフ (Holy Knife)/Flash [Knife]/Shiny [Knife]

77/32

たり (Spear)/Oak [Spear]

06/02

まうおけのやり (Spear of Exorcism)/Rune [Spear]

05/03

ひかるやり (Holy Spear)/Shiny [Spear]

92/30

まよけのおの (Axe of Exorcism)/Rune [Axe]

05/05

ぎんのおの (Silver Axe)/Silver [Axe]

07/24

おもいおの (Heavy Axe)/Heavy [Axe]

38/14

ひかるおの (Holy Axe)/Cut [Axe]/Shiny [Axe]

112/45

けん (Sword)/Old [Sword]/Worn [Sword]

15/05

せいなるけん (Holy Sword)/Soul [Sword]/Silver [Sword]

15/36

ながいけん (Long Sword)/Long [Sword]

55/25

ぎんのけん (Holy Sword)/Silver [Sword]/Shiny [Sword]

132/65

If you missed the Shiny Sword in the first room you can go to after solving the projector puzzle, there's another one on the way to the Iron Key.

ぼくとう (Kendo Stick)/Club

30/01

With this weapon equipped, it makes the early game much easier.

こんぼう (Cudgel)/Mace

62/05

スキ (Skiing Pole)/Fork/Silver [Trident]

25/65

みつまたのほこ (Trident of Heaven)/Pitct [Fork]/Pearl [Trident]

179/120

There are two of these. One of them is located in a sand trap, which means you would only see both Pearl Tridents in use in an All Frescoes run.

# Notes:

There's no Hiragana "り" (ri) in the Japanese font. Katanana "リ" is used in its place.

The 7th character of an item's name can be briefly seen until it's obscured by the menu's borders.

I find the knife and sword icons in the translations kind of hard to distinguish from each other, but that's just me. If the knife icon was pointing in a straight direction, it would be easier to tell apart from the sword icon.
