# Stickman Hook Speedrunning



Welcome to the Stickman Hook speedrunning community! We are quite small but we always have a few active speedrunners. This guide will help you learn the basics of speedrunning Stickman Hook.



## Where to Play Stickman Hook

This is a pretty common question when looking for a place to start. There are many different versions of the game, the most popular one being on [Poki](https://poki.com/en/g/stickman-hook). Due to an update a couple years ago the one on Poki is a newer (and worse) version of the game. It has more skins for ads and added a grapple mode. The main version that most speedrunners use is [stickman.pro](https://stickman.pro/) because it still has the older version. There are also iOS and Android apps for the game which are in their own separate category.



## Rules For the Speedrun

The time for the speedrun starts exactly when the character first appears on the screen like this:

And the speedrun ends the first frame that the main menu screen appears again. If your submission video doesn't contain the start and/or the end it will be immediately rejected. The main speedrunning category is Orange% which consists of the first 5 levels of the game. The name is a little misleading because the orange skin is unlocked after level 4, not 5. The way you can tell that you're on level 5 is if the level looks like this:

## Timing Your Speedruns

Submitting an accurate time for your speedrun is very important. Most speedruns use a program called [LiveSplit](https://livesplit.org/), but feel free to use whatever timer works best for you. To make sure you get the exact time, I recommend retiming your speedrun with the program [SPRT](https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime) or [VidTimer](https://vidtimer.com/). Make sure you set the correct start and stop frames for the right time.
