After the game's 120% finished: go to Artisans and get your lives down to 0 by drowning in the waterfall, then the clock starts at the very beginning in front of Nestor's spot as soon as you move at 0 lives: farm the orbs/silver dragons the enemies leave behind to get 96 lives across the 6 worlds (16 lives per world before going to the Balloonist) as fast as possible, the run ends immediately after getting the 96th life in Gnasty's World
Artisans = 16, Peace Keepers = 32, Magic Crafters = 48, Beast Makers = 64, Dream Weavers = 80, Gnasty's World = 96
16 lives per world for a "96 Lives" run because that's the highest equal amount of lives that can be obtained per world. Uncollected lives from purple chests leftover from the main game don't count, only orbs/silver dragons dropped by enemies. If you lose a life/lives, just continue getting lives toward the goal. Exiting a level while falling to save a life is acceptable
If you reach the goal for a world and there's extra orbs around the Spyro icon, those orbs carry over to getting the next life in the next world. If you go over the goal for a world by collecting a silver dragon (for example: you get the last orb for the 48th life in Magic Crafters but you also collected a silver dragon and now you have 49 lives) then you have to die to get back to the target number of lives before going to the next world. Collecting an unexpected extra silver dragon for a last life is only acceptable in Gnorc Cove and Twilight Harbor, the run still ends crossing from 96 to 97 lives in those levels
Interesting idea. Best way to start a category or category extension is to try the run yourself and have fun with it
Hey! I love the category idea I had to give it some goes myself. I got this 1:11 pretty easily then did another run which was on pace for a 1:04 but died horribly in Gnasty world by getting literally 0 free lives. Sadly the cat is extremely RNG dependent with each extra free life saving like 40-50secs~ so idk if ill keep going but I think with amazing RNG (adv 6 free lives each hw) and better Dream Weavers routing a sub 1 Hour is possible
Hey, great work! This run's very repetitive but it feels good to reach the target numbers. If anyone thinks of stuff to build on the idea: that's awesome. I've been wondering what the post-120% orbs can be used for in a speedrun for a while
so compared to the 99 lives speedrun, the idea here is to force you to life grind in more than just one or two levels right? like thats why you're saying to get an equal amount in each homeworld, im assuming.
Hi Dayo, 96 Lives is different from 99 Lives with the 16 lives per world rule. You can get the 16 lives in each world in any level but certain levels work better for getting orbs because of their higher amount of enemies. I've been doing it with Toasty, Cliff Town, Wizard Peak, Misty Bog, Dark Passage and Twilight Harbor. Try it... WHO WILL BE #1 IN 96 LIVES?!
haha ty Dayo, the run is pretty much doing IL's for 12 minutes each homeworld while praying for good rng with the free lives the whole time, execution only matters somewhat. Cause theoretically you could complete a homeworld in killing just 16 enemies, it's honestly heartbreaking executing the levels well but getting little to no free lives so the split loses 3-4 minutes killing the run. I think the rules may need to change slightly for the category to really work, your concept of a category in post 120% is super interesting to me but I have no ideas
The run's inconsistent because of the unpredictable extra lives, if the enemies only dropped orbs then there'd be no issue
Possible rule changes:
-
Only collect orbs and avoid silver dragons, if you accidentally collect an SD then you have to die
-
Don't collect orbs on the way to the next world after you hit the current world's goal
