Glossary (explanation of terms used through out the guides)

**Achievement/frames/card**: What you receive when you fulfill an objective. Other runners use achievements or frames but I use cards. The name doesn't really matter. There are 86 cards in the game (see google doc). Just remember that those 3 words all refer to the same thing.

**Room/level**: Like with the previous thing, Room and Level are used interchangeably. I will try to clean up the documents to have all levels be rewritten to rooms but for now just know that there is no difference between the two.

**Collectibles**: The blue(1)/red(5)/gold(10) cubes you see everywhere. Red ones only appear if you stand in a sparkly spot for a few moments or where an item used to be. Golden cubes spawn like blue ones but are very rare. You will need to gather at least 800 through out the run to get the 3 cards that require collectibles. Rule of thumb: Grab each golden cube and red cube unless it's really out of the way. If you play well and grab collectibles at decent rate this is not something to worry about during a run. In my PB, I had never had a moment where I had to specifically grind for them. Just make sure to be as efficient with your resources and it will work out.

**Sprite**: Used within this game to refer to anything that when touched you will become. This happens a lot in Vivian Clark.

**Teleport**: Often abbreviated to TP. This level features the bow spinning around with four targets (plus the fifth target if you miss). It is one of the major hubs in the game and many levels loop back to this one.

**Evaporation/evaporate level** The level you get when you go into the bonfire or complete some cards (example: "Find a way to evaporate"). You go up and can touch Sprites to access levels. If you keep going up you eventually go into the space rocket.

**rain**: This refers to the very first level where you fall down as a droplet on a planet. This is always where you start the game and a few methods exist to get to this level again (mostly by touching clouds).

**Purgatory/bonfire room**: The room you go to when you die. I call it purgatory myself and in my resources but bonfire room is more appropriate. You can buy stuff here and evaporate.

**Turtle**: This item transports you back to the previous level you were in. In the event of death, use this item after you have loaded into the next level or you will go back to the wrong level. If you use turtles in a row you will loop between two levels (as the previous level is always one of those two).

**clock**: These are like turtles but cheaper. However when doing them you have to do a "challenge level"(unique levels only accessible through these clocks). Most challenge levels are short and not too hard. There is one challenge level that is never worth it: The one where you have to travel a ridiculous distance across a high platform with a blue creature. It is always faster to just die and try a different clock than attempt this very long, very hard challenge level.

**wood**: If you pick this up (or buy it) you increase bonfire intensity by 1. Max = 5 and at 0 you get a game over (very bad since a game over resets your turtles and collectibles).

**Item**: Everything that will go into the third hand in the menu. There are items scattered through out the game. You can only hold one item at a time so remember to deliver the item as quickly as possible so that you can pick up new items. Refer to the google docs to see what item is brought to where. So far there is only two items that prevent each other from efficient routing (hamburger and JoJo).

Tips and hints

This a collection of all tips that I have discovered so far:

**Hold jump**: Almost all characters will jump higher/farther if you hold the jump button.

**Forgivable surfaces**: Many surfaces that are at a steep angle will often allow you to still jump normally.

**Upon death: turtle**: The game might give you a turtle (extremely useful item) when you die. So check for that always. It might cost you 1-4 seconds to look/grab a turtle but it might save you a minute when you need it in a pinch.

**turtle abuse**: A few times you might have to leave a level to do another level and you would prefer to get right back to the previous level? Well if you just use the turtle inbetween getting the card and loading the next level you will go back a level but you will still have the card. Most useful for "Stare down drums" and "enter bird's dream"(wait until the dream has fully loaded before you use the turtle).

**alternate left-right movement**: The controls in this game are very floaty and often you will overshoot platforms. Move left-right/forwards-backwards to reduce the floatiness and make more accurate jumps. Holding a direction for a long time during a jump will often result in too much acceleration and death.

**Hidden access to the red fly level**: When you touch the blue bird sprite you will fall down. Land left of the crocodile and move into the tree. This will result in a quick mini-game (2-3 sec) after which you are in the red fly level.

**Quickest access to the key level**: You will need to go the key level 3 times to deliver the gold, blue, and red key. Here are the quickest routes from each major hub(not measured yet):
Evaporation: Get TP or Rain.
TP: Shoot the top right target (green insect level) and when playing the FPS, shoot the middle and left switch. Then go into the level on the far right and in that level jump down.
Rain: Go into the tall building with yellow marks. In the dizzy labyrinth touch the ice cream man painting. In the ice cream man level jump down.

**You don't have to do all levels!**: This is obvious if you consult the "Every single card" doc but it bears repeating. There are many levels that don't have any cards in them.

**Memorize the optimal routes beforehand**: During the game there will be only 3 moments where you will have a break (when you deliver the 100/200/500 collectibles). So make sure that you don't have to look at notes too much during serious runs as death comes very quickly.

**Do areas together**: This is more subjective but I find it easier to do all TP levels(levels that are accessed from the TP and loop back into it) together for example. This makes it easier to remember which of the 86 cards you got so far as you can just cross of an entire area.

Vivian Clark all rooms (100%). AKA: The pain run.

Just making this guide in advance to let people know what's up with the all rooms run. It will be ran (by me alone probably). It's doing everything in the game, visit all rooms in the game. If you want to route this before I do please hit me up on discord and I will help you with it.

I am gonna do this run after I get a good any% run.

Vivian Clark collection of resources (using google drive)

This is a collection of resources with everything you need to know to beat the game as quickly as possible. This is all 99% done by yommi (@ me on the discord if you want to contact me). Previous runners have used the phrase "achievements" but in all of my documents I refer to achievements as "cards". Consider the two phrases the same thing. Read other guides for tips and routing.

The link above contains all the maps and google docs that I made in regards to Vivian Clark speedrunning. I especially advice you to read up a little bit on the optimal route document. It outlines the optimal sequences for getting cards. As of 11 Oktober 2020 these documents are still very far away from being done. Please have patience for this process.

Vivian Clark end credits (any%) Routing

Let me start by saying that Vivian Clark does not have a said route you can take. If you refer to the "optimal route" document in the other guide you might notice that everything is segmented. This is because Vivian Clark involves a lot of RNG in what levels are best to do (primarily through the evaporation level and collectables RNG).

**Protect this planet**
So far I have identified one thing that is worthy of always being done first. To get to the Make it to the end room, go down into the purple house and pop a bubble. Then as hamburger man go left into the angry yellow jumper.
Make it to the end > find a way to evaporate (if you die just use bonfire) > protect this planet.
"Protect this planet" is a difficult level to access so getting to that level first is key. The most reliable (almost 80%) way I found is to position yourself in such a way that you are in front of the heart shaped cloud(later I will make a youtube vid for this). Once the top half becomes darker and you still don't see the sprite dash to the left to try and catch one that might spawn further left.

**Elephant book**
Elephant book route is also best done early as the fastest way of doing that sequence is to do "Cut the string" right before you deliver the book and then jump backwards blindly. This strat is not too easy.

**Kill demon**
This one is very easy to choke on so do it early on so you don't have to choke on it 20 times in a row!

**Save the Muffin!**
Same deal as Kill Demon. Choking Hazard is real so just do it at the start so you can reset on death (or 2 deaths if your PB is like +1:43).

**The whole rest of the game**
The rest of the game doesn't have any specific routing yet. In general you should try to use the optimal routes that are described in the google document as much as possible but the order of the segments is mostly up to the run itself.

Vivian Clark ending credits overconfidence route for any%

This is a route that only forces you to do the highest of RNG rooms (muffin and the get to the top one) at the start where the purple planet + elephant book are not done during the reset area. This route is harsher for final times since you might choke in some rooms. Will add more explanation later on when I am more familiar with this route.
