Boss Videos (Expert Difficulty)

Made a new tutorial on boss fights for expert difficulty. Hopefully it helps someone out there! This was supposed to be part of a full game speedrun tutorial but it got way to long

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMKACPJVu-w

Most of the tips in here were found either through trial and error or through collaborative discussion with Bongo. Shoutout Bongo (and Harpoon for the OG tutorials of course!)

If you want to see lines for some of the other boards there’s a playlist below

Cheat Codes

Here’s 2 cheat codes that may be helpful for new people getting into speedrunning. The 2nd of these was pretty recently shared on Reddit by someone involved in the SBK2 decompilation!

# Unlock All Characters, Boards, and Levels

```
Z, B, C-Up, Dpad-Down, Joystick-Left, Joystick-Right, Dpad-Up, R, Z, A
```

If entered correctly you should see Damien laugh and then fly off screen.

*This does not work with save files.

# Unlock All Levels Only

```
R, Dpad-Down, L, Joystick-Up, Start
```

Wendy should react instead of Damien

Speedrun Spreadsheet - Resources for New Speedrunners

Last time I ran 100% I put together a [spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O2CGamhPh61og-iRHLINoPzqt26LX5qPmmM0rlfMvQ4/edit?gid=0#gid=0) for calculating earnings through the run. Though it would be worth sharing for any new folks that would be interested in running the game.

Contains:

- Board Costs, Player Stats, Item Explanations
- Tech, Glitches, and Resources *with tips as well as video links*
- Cheat Codes for unlocking stuff (useful for people with no save data)
- Earnings by level, how much you want to earn in the mini games, and when to buy your board upgrades, in a run (tabbed for Any% and 100% separately)
- A list showing which CPUs pick up blues items, how many, and on what level.
- Tabs for Earnings by the current 100% speedrun submissions on SRC, including WR.

*Note that this was all made while playing AS LINDA. If you play someone else, the cpu blue item pickup list will likely be different.*

If you want to use it yourself just copy the Any% or 100% tab into your own spreadsheet, and then replace the values in the "Desired Trick Prize" column with your trick earnings as you play. There's also tabs for the earnings for the current 3 100% speedruns including WR for comparisons.

Happy Hunting! And if you have any feedback on how I could improve the document just hit me up in the discord!

Trick Game: Scoring + Strategy

Thought it would be good to share what I've found while trying to max out my score in Trick Game, since this is technically relevant to New Game Any%. I've also included a [spreadsheet](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O2CGamhPh61og-iRHLINoPzqt26LX5qPmmM0rlfMvQ4/edit?gid=0#gid=0) which shows how much you'll need to earn per level to have an efficient any%/100% run.

# Trick Basics

- Hold A and any joysticks direction, then let go of A to perform a flip/spin
- Perform another spin by pressing A and holding any joystick direction
- Grab by using the C-buttons
- The window for combos is really lenient. The easiest strat is to spam A while moving the joystick in different directions (notches on the stick)

# **Scoring System**

- 1 Grab = 1pt
- 2 Grabs, same direction= 2pt
- 2 Unique Grabs = 5pt
- 1 Spin = 10pt
- 2 Spins, same direction = 25pt
- 2 Unique Spins = 35pt
- 3 Unique Spins = 65pt
- 4 Unique Spins = 100pt
- 5 Unique Spins = 145pt
- 6 Unique Spins = 215pt
- 7 Unique Spins = 325pt
- **8 Unique Spins = 999pt (AKA Miracle)**
- Anything above 8 is pointless, unless you accidentally did the same spin twice. Then you gotta do a 9th spin to add in the one you missed.
- At 11 spins, the game seems to give up and just gives you 999pts, even if you've done the same spin a couple times.

## **The takeaway here is:**

- Each extra spin adds points
- Each notch on an N64 joystick is a unique spin direction
- Spinning/grabbing in different directions gives more points than spamming the same trick
- 8 unique spins is the minimum for a 999 point trick (Miracle)

# Strategies

## Any% (Linda - Trick 2 Board)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfWcbMC7fbg?t=418

For Any%, you can't get enough air for anything above 6 spins, since you'll be on the Trick 2 board. Assume for this example that we're using Linda since she's the meta. You'll want around 600pts which nets exactly 35,000G. Again, see the [spreadsheet for the economy breakdown through any%/100%](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O2CGamhPh61og-iRHLINoPzqt26LX5qPmmM0rlfMvQ4/edit?gid=0#gid=0). If you need help seeing the route, just look at my [Any%](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ieQ5hWOk_Q&t=7m20s) run or the beginning of [100%](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfWcbMC7fbg&t=6m58s) for guidance, or message me in the discord.

- Start: Boost + Forward Hop and start cutting through the first snake turn section
- 1st Jump: 3 spins + grabs = 70pts
- 2nd Jump: 2 spins + grabs = 38pts
- 3rd Jump: 1 spin + grabs = 11-12pts
- 4th Jump: 4 spins + grabs = 106pts
- 5th Jump: 1 Spin + grabs = 11-12pts
- 6th Jump: 3 spins + grabs = 70pts
- 7th Jump: 3 spins + grabs = 70pts
- 8th Jump: 6 spins + grabs = 226pts
- **Finish**: ~600pts (more if you're grabbing throughout the track)

## 100% (Nancy - Dragon Board)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=appZ6vAZC4Y

This is relevant to 100% where you must buy all the special boards. The most efficient approach would be to do all races on normal/expert, then hit 9000+ twice at the end of a run.

This setup relies on getting 999s (Miracles) every jump you possibly can to get the highest score. Current WR and max score is [9999](https://youtu.be/Xfm9lxBtLTY) with 10 Miracles and a few other tricks in there.

# Where to hit Miracles

The best place to farm 999s is at the very start of the level. The snake-turn section at the beginning can be abused ([see example here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=appZ6vAZC4Y)) with the right line so you can chain the same trick over and over again.

![](/static/blob/rnq556rn.png)

In my attempts, you usually can keep doing Miracles until the clock gets close to 53s, then make a mad dash to the finish line. There's still 5 more jumps to do, with 4 currently being Miracles. This line should make getting 7K to 9K points pretty feasible, though there's practically no margin for error. If you spend too much time at the top of the track, its over.

## **Simplest Strat (11 spins)**

Once you reach a combo of 11 spins + grabs, the game just gives you a 999 every time. If you can get enough air to do 11 spins, go for it, but it'll lose you several seconds due to extra hang-time. This means less time to perform 999s throughout an attempt.

## **Most Efficient Strat (8 spins)**

The easiest technique is to initiate a spin, then continue to spam A while pushing the joystick into a different notch for each flip. For me its starting at Up on the joystick, and then rotating counter-clockwise for each additional spin. 8 notches for 8 unique spins. Recently I've found that *doing grabs is completely optional*, but out of habit I'll probably keep doing grabs. Based on my tests, your score will go up like this for each spin: 12, 38, 69, 107, 153, 225, 336, 999.

You can see that there's a huge gab between 5 spins and 8. To max out the score you need 10 Miracles, and then 10pts extra via one flip or some grabs at the very beginning.

# High Score Lines

Lastly, there’s been a few different lines for the 100% category and I wanted to share them here. You can choose how difficult you want the coin farm to be :)

## 2000 Points (by KoiIroHoshi)

Scrub to 1:43:57 in the video. This is the OG line!

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/120021623?t=1h43m57s

## 4000 Points (v1)

This line started to incorporate the backwards tech. There was so much time left on one attempt that I started going back up at the end to get some extra tricks in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUHgVQix6F4

## 4000 Points (v2 Tutorial)

This line changed the backwards tech to earlier in the level.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx_ELW_Fv6M

## 4000 Points (v3 Tutorial)

This line started using an intentional wipeout for an earlier Miracle, but used old the old spot for backwards tech.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUHgVQix6F4

## 5000 Points

This line was especially risky because it required hitting the side of a ramp for one of the Miracles. Jump timing was really tough.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EWT4Z52qpA

## 7000 Points

Combination of everything so far. Better, but still not quite there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcpOgfFcTEU

## 9000 Points (Tutorial)

This one utilizes one spot earlier on the track for 5 Miracles in a row. No intentional wipeout, and its a hybrids of the previous strats without the backwards tech.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xb7eTBKoySI

## 9521 - Almost Perfect

This does everything perfectly, except one spin was in the wrong direction, costing 400+ points

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoQdQ0Bbg50

## 9999 - World Record

This took so much time and patience to pull off. So often I’d reset if just one jump was too low, or if I didn’t get a good landing speed/angle. The 7th miracle was the last one to be implemented and that was hell to line up. Getting it all with enough time to reach the finish is incredibly challenging.
