2DS / 2DSXL added to platform list + submission clarifications

As stated, we've added 2DS consoles to list of platforms now! Wasn't added in the past because this site didn't originally have any 2DS options on the platform list back then.

So we now have 4 options for console we're playing on:

1. 3DS
2. new 3DS (has extra shoulder buttons)
3. 2DS
4. 2DSXL

*There is a Separate toggle for Emulator runs at bottom of page (doesn't matter what you put for platform if you run on emulator)

Submission Clarifications

On the topic of run submissions, I wanted to address a few points of confusion that apply to all run submissions.

Namely what you need to put for:

• Run Times (RTA/IGT boxes)
• Region (Console region)

Run Times

For all Individual level runs (both any% and 100% ILs), only need to fill in "Load Removed Time" which will be the total in game time spent to complete the level. "Real Time Attack" should be left blank (Leaderboard behaves a bit weird and gets out of order when any runs have both timing methods while others only have one)

Example: (milliseconds should also be left blank)

For all other runs (SMC/any%, 100%, 100 Mario Challenge, All Lessons), only need to fill in "Real Time Attack" which will be what live split says. "Load Removed Time" should be left blank.

Whenever RTA time is used, us mods basically always retime the runs. For this reason, putting an approximate 'real time attack' for the run is recommended. Runs will generally only be timed to the second and not millisecond unless needing to account for ties (see 100-man easy leaderboard) so you can always leave milliseconds blank.

Region

This does not refer to what country you're in but rather the region of your game/console: All 2DS/3DS have a region associated with them (usually matches the part of the world you got the console from)

• USA (North America) [U]
• EUR (Europe/Australia/New Zealand) [E]
• JPN (Japan) [J]
• KOR (Korea) [K]

If you're not sure putting 'none' is fine but if you want to check the region of the console you can quickly by going to the 2DS/3DS settings:

On the top screen of system settings there's a Version with a bunch of numbers. At the end of the 'Ver.' there is a dash followed by a letter, this last letter corresponds to your console's region [U, E, J, K]

Final words

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter too much if the run submission info isn't correct when you submit because both you as the runner and us as the mod team can update the submissions before and after they're verified to correct it via editing the submission. (Important note: if the runner edits the submission after it's verified it needs to be reverified by a mod cause that's how the site works. Add a comment you're updating the submission info and we'll verify it again)

What's Happening?

Twitch will be permanently deleting user highlights for every user on the platform if your total highlights exceed 100 hours on April 19th (~2.5 weeks from making this post). Update, this has been extended to May 19th.

What does this mean?

Verified runs using twitch for video proof are at serious risk of losing video proof. This would be a shame because it would mean losing valuable history of certain players, categories, and the community as a whole.

If currently verified runs lose their video proof, the moderators have agreed to keep them on the leaderboards for now.

As for submitting runs, for the time being we will be allowing twitch submissions for video proof but I'd still encourage everyone to consider other options for video proof just in case.

What do I have to do?

If your not listed above then you're ok and don't need to do anything. If you do have a run at risk;

If your able to I strongly encourage backing up your videos in any way that you can (for example uploading them to YouTube or similar) and resubmitting them with the new video to help preserve this games history.

If you haven't already heard, the servers supporting Mario Maker 1 and other 3DS/Wii U games will be shutting down on Monday, April 8th. To send the 100-man category out with a bang, we're doing a small event in the discord where we've been counting down each day with a different difficulty level. Saturday is the catch-up day for any category, so even if you haven't played yet, you can still join in. We'll also be having an event on Sunday with the 100-man Easy category.

Regarding the future of the 100-man categories, the server shutdown effectively ends the way most of us have played the categories. If you have ideas on how to continue the categories post shutdown, please feel free to reach out.

As of this week, runner Pengo5 has successfully completed the first ever sweep of the Any% ILs, holding a 1st place time on every single one of the 100 levels in the category. Congratulations Pengo5 on this impressive achievement!

Happy (belated) Mar10 Day!

For Mar10 day in 2022, we created an any% run of Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS that used the best RTA runs of each individual level recorded by the community. This is intended to give us an idea of what the theoretical best human time might be for this game category.

A huge thank you to ThatBox, rptem, Polonxy, Pengo5, JuiceACD, J_duude, and DarkerLord16 for allowing me to use their videos for this project, and of course a thank you to all of the community IL runners for pushing each level to where it is today :)
