Hey everyone, real quick announcement

We have officially removed the RTA column from the SMB2J and SMB2JCE leaderboard following community feedback.

Apologies for this taking longer than expected, the task of trying to get as much detail about load removals is not an easy one, especially with the moderators not really having the free time required for these sorts of things.

If you notice anything wrong with any times on the main boards or category extensions, please contact validusername16 on Discord

Thank you

UPDATE: Thank you to those who took the time and submitted a response to the form, your input is appreciated immensely. 71% of the people who voted were in favour of removing the RTA column from the leaderboards.

Hey folks!

A proposal to remove the RTA column from the SMB2J leaderboard was brought up internally and we would like your input as to whether or not the mod team should follow through with this idea.

Historically we have used the RTA column to document times with loads for affected FDS categories, however we have noticed over the years that this has lead to confusion especially with SNES categories as those (typically) do not require load times to be removed, resulting in runners filling out the time in either the RTA column or both LRT and RTA.

Following the results of this form, research into load times for each approved platform will be reviewed and updated on the existing SRC guides page and new resources will be created to help runners with removing load times when doing their initial retime of the run.

Please do not send a response if you do not have a verified SMB2J submission on the leaderboards.

The form will stop accepting responses on July 21, 2026.

Please send your response via the form here: https://forms.gle/V1c6Baysa9SJNMSd7

Hey Everyone,

A short and quick update. Effective immediately all future submissions performed on the Famicom Mini series release of SMB2J for Game Boy Advance will no longer be accepted. The accuracy of the emulator used in the release is not up to the standard of other emulators on the boards, as it uses a lot of custom patches to specifically handle SMB2J functions such as file loading and elements such as wind.

Hello everyone! Over the past few months, the SMB2J mod team has been working on a major revision of the rules. Before implementing such a significant change, we would like community feedback to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the updates and to gather any suggestions.

Please note that this only affects SMB2J, not SMB1. Some document tabs also contain multiple pages, so please read carefully.

Following Twitch’s announcement regarding the 100-hour storage limit for Highlights, the SMB2J mod team recommends that runners reupload any previously submitted Twitch highlights to a permanent video hosting website (e.g., YouTube) and resubmit any submissions labelled as "at-risk".

We have added Any% D-4 (No S+Q) as a category, to allow runners to speedrun Any% D-4 continuously from 1-1 to D-4.

Enjoy!

Following investigations regarding the integrity of FCEUX submissions, the SMB1/2J moderation team has decided that FCEUX will not be permitted for future submissions, effective September 17th, 2023. Some vulnerabilities in regards to detection methods for cheating were discovered in FCEUX allowing for near undetectable TAS playback. FM2 input files and metadata are stored in plaintext and are easily modified by anyone. Along with this, user SeraphmIII discovered that movie playback can be made nearly undetectable with a single one-byte edit made to the executable file. While possible for any experienced programmer, the ease of this modification is concerning. With this in mind, the SMB1/2J moderation team does not believe that FCEUX is up to the standards of other approved emulators and therefore we will no longer accept submissions performed on it going forward.

Thank you for your understanding.
