Before reading this, if you have a very good regular 100% PB, this category extension does not really add anything. It tests more or less the same skills as regular 100%.

As of the writing of this route I am not entirely confident that the route used is the most optimal, but this is the routing used up until now:

W1: Beat all levels except 1-4 while also collecting the two warp whistles. W2: Beat the entire world just like in regular 100%. W3: Beat every level except 3-6. Cloud is 3-6 and go straight to 3-7. P-wing 3-5. W4: Beat every level, fortress and hammer bro. Use star in 4-f1 if you want. Warp to W5. W5*: Beat every level (except 5-6 and 5-9), fortress and hammer bro. Warp to W6. W6*: Beat the entire world except 6-2 and 6-7. P-wing 6-9. W7: Beat every level (except 7-4 which you cloud over), fortress and piranha plant level. P-wing 7-5 (use a star if you want to go for the clip -- which you should!). You should have a star for both piranha levels and 7-8. You should not need a star for 7-2 as you're likely to enter with fire flower. Use P-wing from piranha level on 7-6. Use whistle to warp to W8. W8: Play the entire world just like in regular 100%.

*The W6 airship is technically slightly longer than the W5 airship. However, Peach gives you a cloud after beating W5 and a P-wing after beating W6. Using the whistle to skip the W6 airship will mean that you have one less P-wing, and consequently you will have to walljump 6-9 to have a P-wing for 7-5. Walljumping 6-9 means that you will also have to play through 6-10 small, and not be able to firekill boomboom (and the koopaling), or you will have to use your awesome alpha gamer skills to grab two power-ups in 6-10 while keeping P-speed throughout. With optimal play, using the whistle in W6 may be faster, but using it in W5 is far more comfortable.

These are the major differences from regular 100%:

  • In 3-4 you have to grab the fireflower, as you don't play 3-6
  • If you lose fireflower before 6-f1, you do not have a backup tail, and will have to waste some time to grab leaf in the fortress
  • You have no backup powerups after 6-5/6-6 before 6-f2, so the safety 6-5 first strat is not as good as in regular 100%
  • You do not have a P-wing for 7-9, so it's slow or clips (I keep tail from 7-6 through 7-8, play 7-9 with tail and go back to 7-7, but this is not optimal)
  • There is no free fire flower backup in the W7 airship, so to enter W7 with fireflower (or hammer suit, I suppose) you have to keep it through 7-f2
