You are already in the level anyway and the star does not throw you out of the level. This saves: 1 entering of a painting, 1 starselect screen, 1 level entering animation, 1 level exiting animation, also the star itself is quite fast.

don't forget you also don't have to deal with the textbox when reentering the level to pause exit out of it
