A collection of all files to help you start off speedrunning the game. Includes the base game (2009 version), the IGT mod, practice tools (MushROM and Practice Hack), and several different flash players. Also contains a small text file to guide you through the basics.

(Starter Pack) All Useful Files

In-game timer mod for the game, allowed (and recommended) for speedruns. Instructions on how to use the timer: [SM63-Mods/IGT/README.md at main · nabster978/SM63-Mods · GitHub](https://github.com/nabster978/SM63-Mods/blob/main/IGT/README.md)

2009 IGT

Fastest version due to various glitches. Recommended for speedrunning.

2009 Version

In-game timer mod for the July 2009 (a.k.a. "2010") version of game, allowed (and recommended) for speedruns. Instructions on how to use the timer: [SM63-Mods/2010IGT/README.md at main · nabster978/SM63-Mods · GitHub](https://github.com/nabster978/SM63-Mods/blob/main/2010IGT/README.md)

2010 IGT

The version of the game used in Any% LDP. Fixes a crash in Space that happened in the 2012 version.

2010 Version

Recommended for building levels in the level designer.

2012 Version

Typically, all later versions of flash players (11 and above) are only able to display 30FPS (33.333 millisecond) or 60FPS (16.667 millisecond) frames. For SM63, this means most frames are 30FPS, with a few 60FPS frames thrown in. The new, modified versions allow any frame lengths, which means all frames are pretty close to the mean value of 31.125 milliseconds, giving a smoother experience. Either version can be used and is allowed on the leaderboards.

Flash Player 11 (MaxPatch)

In order to run the .swf files, you will need a flash player. Once downloaded, simply drag-and-drop the .swf file onto the player. Provided here are a few flash player versions; test around to see which version runs the game the best for you. Full list of all versions is available at [standaloneflashplayers directory listing](https://archive.org/download/standaloneflashplayers/fp/)

MushROM is the newest practice tool for the game. It allows warping to any room, changing your FLUDD / water / health / live counter, easily setting up ILs of any course, and much more.

To execute any task, press the forward slash (/) and type a command. Documentation for commands: https://github.com/nabster978/SM63-Mods/blob/main/MushROM/help.md

MushROM

Older practice tool for the game, includes most of the functionality seen in MushROM. You may consider using this if MushROM runs poorly on your computer. Version 2.3 includes Beta Quest, a hack which randomizes all room transitions in the game, and is used in "Beta Quest 10 Shines" category on the Category Extensions leaderboard. Several versions of practice hack are included:

- Version 2.2 (used for mostly everything)
- Version 2.3 (used for Beta Quest)
- Version 2.4 (used for ????)

To execute any task, press the forward slash (/) and type a command. Documentation of the commands: https://github.com/Sekanor/SM63PracticeHack

Practice Hack

This is the main resource spreadsheet of the community. Here you can find all the routes, a list of the glitches, and other useful resources.

Runouw Runs Youtube Channel

Hack that kills you if you take any damage. Not really useful for speedruns, but it's cool.

SM63 Deathmatch Hack

Some guy translated SM63 into Korean. I finally managed to get the download to extract properly, so here it is.

A non-stop mod for SM63. Shines no longer make you go through the shine animation, and the shine counter updates when you touch a shine. Used in the "Nonstop" categories on Category Extensions.
