As stated by Nintendo, there will be free updates for a select few of the Switch 1 games to either perform better on Switch 2, or to utilize the new GameShare feature (GameShare is a given for all of the games that get an update) SM3DWBF is one of the games that will get one of these updates, so my question is: Will there be a separate category for the Switch 2 update if it is found that the Switch 2 version saves time over the regular version? I'm not sure if it would be fair if people had to spend an extra 450$ just to get WR on the game. I'm mainly asking about it for RTA, and not ILs.
Edit: Gameshare was only for a few games, not all.
As with all games and changes and whatnot, this sounds like a "we don't know, we'll have to do some testing and figure out what is most reasonable for this scenario"
I'm not a moderator of this game, but this seems reasonable if we don't have any information quite yet.
Yeah that makes sense, one of the things I don’t like about the Bowser’s Fury leaderboard is that there’s not a separate leaderboard for the physical and digital copys, when digital saves time with the load speeds, so I don’t want that to be the case with this too, if load times on Switch 2 are faster or something else is faster.
I think as long as it is listed in the consoles it should not be seperated. It is pretty hard for both runners and mods when a new update or new hardware is released. We will just have to wait and see.
Update: now that the Switch 2 is out. Is it faster than the original version?
Yeah, the Switch 2 loads save well over a minute in Any% lol. The timesave comes from being able to press "A" on the red screen noticeably faster
But since the only difference is loads, I don't really see there being a separate category for Switch 2, especially for a relatively inactive game. Yes, pay to win sucks, but speedrunning has technically always been pay to win
Oh wow that’s pretty interesting. Yeah pay to win does suck, but you are right it has always been pay to win, for example, I've had to buy a lot of controllers to keep speedrunning the Switch version.
Yeah, same here. One thing the mods could do is remove load times for runs below a certain threshold (like 1:30) so that top runners won't have to buy a Switch 2. This is done for the NSMB games.
That’s a pretty good alternative. If it doesn’t happen though, it will still be cool to see the record dropped even lower, even if it’s limited to the Switch 2.
"speedrunning has always been pay to win" doesn't realy convince me, there is a pretty big gap between alredy having or getting now a switch 1 with the respective game and having to get now switch 2 to be competent (or for that matter every single new one that nintendo releases)
that being said, you can always filter leaderboard on your own by platform, so a subcategorization for loads is not that necesary realy, some could still want to compete even on a switch 2 vs switch 1 scenario
Hello, 3DW+BF community! As of late, we have started making new changes to ensure fairness, efficiency, and legitimacy throughout the leaderboards. Out of the dozen changes we have made, here are the most important.

Since the game's release, the Bowser
