Apologies, I only just saw this (didn't get any notification from the website). What does the special present do? i.e. does it affect your abilities or stats in the game? I ask because I don't have the special present on my own game, so I'm not able to verify.
Movement speed, jump height, attack power, and attack range will increase dramatically.
I think if you can obtain the Special Present in another save file, you'll be able to use it from the start when you begin a new game.
My suggestion is to divide categories into those where gifts can be used and those where they cannot.
Also, I have another idea: how about creating categories where the story can be skipped and categories where it cannot?

Creating separate categories sounds good to me. The one question I have in that case would be, what do you mean regarding the story being skipped / not being skipped? i.e. do you mean allowing sequence breaks that cause parts of the story to be skipped (like crossing the gap through space from Sector A to Sector B)?
Simply put, skip-free means you must trigger every flag necessary for story progression. For example: After obtaining the R.A.T., you must properly defeat the Centurion. After acquiring the Vehicle Key, you must obtain the Scanner Battery and return with it.
In other words, it prohibits actions only performed in speedruns. To draw an analogy from other games, it's akin to categories like No OoB, No ACE, Warpless, or Glitchless.
Therefore, the current Any% category is expected to be one that permits skipping the story.
Makes sense, thanks! I think what would make sense to me for the categories/rulesets would be something like the following:
- Any%
- New Game+
- Any% Restricted
- New Game+ Restricted
I’m thinking that Any% should not allow gifts, because you’re required to already have progression from another save file in order to use it on the new save file.
New Game+ would allow the use of gifts.
Restricted would be a restricted ruleset requiring you to follow the regular story route of the game without skipping story trigger points, and it would be applicable to both Any% and New Game+.
A Character variable has been added to support the new TOMOMI DLC character. All existing runs have been updated to set Character to Laurie.
