This depatcher will downgrade your QFG5 installation to 1.0. It assumes that you're starting with an installation from Steam or GOG.

1. Copy your QFG5 installation to a new location
2. Extract this .zip inside that folder
3. Run depatcher\depatch.bat (it will request admin privileges because the utility I'm using is old; sorry about that!)

Once this is done, your game will be almost exactly as though you had installed it from a 1.0 CD. The only difference is that I also used [QFG5Patcher](https://github.com/ubipred/QFG5Patcher) to allow the game to run without the game CD.

From here, you'll need to add the program to DxWnd. (If you don't already have QFG5 setup in DxWnd, go [here](https://www.speedrun.com/quest_for_glory_v_dragon_fire/resources/z116u) first.) Then follow these instructions to add a config for 1.0:

1. In the Options menu, turn on "Expert mode"
2. Right-click your current QFG5 setup and select "Duplicate"
3. Right-click the new icon and select "Modify"
4. Change "Path" to your new 1.0 executable
5. In the "Compat." tab (top row, third from the right), enable the "Handle Exceptions" tweak
6. Turn off "Expert mode" so you don't shoot yourself in the foot later

This is all you need to do to allow the game to run in modern Windows; you don't need to enable any other compatibility options.

If you have any questions or run into any problems, you can ask us on the [QFG Speedrunning Discord server](https://discord.gg/BZ9Gmtyb).

These save files begin at the very start of a new game. You can play as Elsa or Magnum Opus, and as any class (or no class).

I can verify it is possible to beat the game as Elsa, marry Elsa as Elsa, and then pass up on the throne at the end of the game as Elsa to make Elsa the Queen. It's quite amazing. :)

If you want to run QFG5 in windowed mode instead of fullscreen, you can use the program DxWnd. The latest version does not appear to work with QFG5 anymore, so you'll need to download an older version instead:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/files/Latest%20build/v2_05_87_build.rar/download

Launch DxWnd, then click File->Import and choose the .dxw config file linked at the bottom of this guide. Then right-click on the icon and choose Modify.

You will need to set the path to your game executable manually. You can copy one of the two paths below based on whether you bought the game on Steam or GOG.

- C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Quest for Glory Collection\QG5-\QfG5.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Quest for Glory 5\QfG5.exe

By default, the game will launch centered on your desktop in a 1280x960 window. You can also change this under Position on the Modify window. (Enable "X, Y coordinates" if you want to set the window position manually.)

When you are done, make sure to File->Save to save your changes. Enjoy!
