Hey everyone!
We have recently added a new ruleset regarding top runs. It was already announced in our discord and I'm pretty much just copy pasting what was said there:
Cheating has increasingly become an issue in Phasmophobia over the past years. Because of the way the game is coded, it is unfortunately incredibly easy to cheat. This ranges from immediately knowing the ghost and its location to straight up manipulating the ghost type to your liking without anyone ever knowing. There apparently also is no anti-cheat system at all or it is incredibly easy to bypass it. Previously, we would only ask for (hours of) footage of run attempts if one or multiple runs seemed suspicious, mostly regarding their luck involved. However if you're at least somewhat smart about it, you could easily cheat to obtain a speedrun without raising any suspicion since you only need a recording of the run itself. Because of this problem, we have made the decision to apply the following rules:
-
Any top 3 run with a time below a category-specific time threshold is required to include additional footage of previous run attempts prior to the run of up to 1 hour within the submission. It should be unedited footage with of course exceptions like censoring personal information.
-
The corresponding video needs to include a minimum of 20 minutes of prior attempt footage right before the run. If the run took less than 20 minutes to achieve, all attempts need to be included in the video. (20 minutes may not be enough time if it doesn't include that many run attempts, e.g. less than 10, because of that we always recommend adding as much proof as possible).
-
The list of time thresholds can currently be found here (times are subject to change): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vRVVldOx6kP0mb51_f34L7LzPIZbF4L33Uq9Q4r_6zs/edit?usp=sharing. Be aware that the map sizes differ from the official map sizes in-game, these are included in the document. These rules also don't apply to categories with empty fields.
-
For any run: Moderators still have the ability to request additional hours of unedited footage of run attempts if they have a valid reason to do so (this rule already existed before but I just wanted to point out that it is still intact).
For regular top runners, the only change is practically that you also have to upload your run attempt footage instead of immediately deleting it. Any runs achieved prior to this announcement are also not affected by this rule.
This ruleset also currently does not apply to Category Extensions (but might in the future). Otherwise, we will likely keep these rules at least until Phasmophobia makes it a whole lot more difficult to abuse any form of cheating.
The linked document does also have a page for rejection time thresholds for runs that exceed our given time limits regarding what we consider a "speedrun". As of right now it is however still empty, but we will probably move the part of the rules that includes the time limits to there as well.
Thank you for your understanding!
