I’ve been experimenting with a small OSRS timing challenge and wanted to bring it here to get proper feedback from people who understand routing, verification, and category structure.
The idea is simple: time a run from Lumbridge to the Grand Exchange under identical conditions for all players.
I’ve done several attempts and my current best is 1:24.28. This is effectively the first published time, so I’m opening the door for others to try and push it further.
Client: Runelite Plugins used:
- World Location Grid Info + Region Lines
Timing: LiveSplit Manual splits on region ID changes
- A lot of players pointed out that OSRS movement is tied to 0.6s ticks, so any “perfect” timing method should reflect that.
- I have noted that the Shortest Path plugin essentially acts as a TAS route generator so wouldn't be legal for runs. Instead, learning from it would be allowed. (Is the shortest path necessarily the fastest path ?)
- Some players hinted at niche ways to move faster than the standard 2 tiles/tick under specific conditions. (if enough people try it maybe this will lead to discoveries in mechanics...on a 20yo game its improbable, but it only takes 1 crazy person)
Category: Lumbridge → Grand Exchange (0kg, No Items, Unboosted)
Rules:
- Start: first movement input after spawning in Lumbridge courtyard
- End: entering the Grand Exchange region (ID 12598)
- Weight must be 0kg
- No items equipped or in inventory
- No teleports, no boosts, no run‑restoring effects
- No routing overlays (Shortest Path plugin, etc.)
- Tick‑based timing recommended; RTA allowed if clearly shown
- Region transitions must be visible for verification
Happy to refine the ruleset based on community input.
I’d like to expand the idea beyond a single A→B route (some loops around villages/castles/entire map). If this becomes a category, it would make sense to define multiple standardized courses, each with clear rules and identical conditions for all runners.
GLHF!
