100% Glitchless run Guide

This guide relies on [“An In-Depth Guide For Speedrunning Monstrum”](https://www.speedrun.com/monstrum/guides/tvge9) by Desch, and you should check it first to get a proper explanation of the game in general (item spawn rules, the way RNG works etc). Take in account that 100% strategies depicted in the uppermentioned guide are applied to glitched category only!

This 100% Glitchless Run Guide (100%GrG) is introduced because the rules of what is considered a glitch were revised in 2026, and this guide will help a novice runner apply proper strategy to achieve a decent time in this category.

The first (and most) vital thing to learn in 100%GrG is proper item management. Since all glitches that save a lot of space in inventory are banned (for example, Gas Can glitch), filling slots with the maximum possible amount of items—without needing to drop something valuable—becomes pivotal.

Slightly different strategies apply depending on which Deck you spawn on (unless you use MES Mod with Always Upper/Lower Deck spawning—then refer to the corresponding category).

Let's first revise what are the pros and cons of every Deck.

Upper Decks (5th/6th):

+Better time possible;

+Less distance required to complete the run;

+Easier luring monster to the Helipad to meet the category requirement;

-Harder inventory management (lack of Backpack hardens it drastically);

-Less consistent and reliable runs;

-Strict item requirements.

Lower Decks (3rd):

+Consistent and more reliable run possible;

+Easier inventory management (no Backpack required if proper strategy is applied);

+Non-strict item requirements;

-Worse time at the end even with decent RNG;

-More distance to cover;

-Harder to lure monster properly to Helipad.

Before we start revising the strategies for different Decks, here are several tips:

- Always grab Fuse at the spawn room

- If you stumble upon PLR (Power-locked room) at the start of the run with BoltCutters - don't hesitate to grab it

- The same can be applied to a Backpack

- Keep tracking the exact amount of items left to be found and make sure you have enough slots for them. If don't - decide in advance which items you need to get rid of to free the required space for leftover items.

**Lower Decks:**

This Deck is perfect for a calm and consistent run, where items management is less vital.

Grab a Fuse at the spawn room. Also I advise you to grab Flashligh as well, it will help you later in Machine Engine Room (MER). You have two goals for now:

- Find as much heavies (ChainSpool, BoltCutter, and Welding Kit) at three decks

- Use at least two items until you reach Upper Decks

Once you exit the spawn room, always move to the left. Due to the rules of level generation, it's the most reasonable direction - sometimes some rooms are spawned outside the main corridor of the Deck near the spawn point, so you need to check them all before you reach the corridor.

Check all the rooms at the 3rd Deck until nothing is left. Do the same for 2rd Deck as well. Move as the snake back and forth, changing the direction opposite once you enter the Deck below. If you obtain Gas Cans - grab them as well. When you enter the 1st Deck, make sure to start the scouting from the left side (where a staircase to charging station is). Drop the Fuse in front of a staircase and use any Sub item you have (Welder Kit/Battery).

Once the scounting is finished, run along the corridor to the right side. You have two options, depends on which items you've obtained already:

- No Heli items (incl. Gas Cans) - run alongside the Cargo Hold until you reach the last door at the corridor, enter it, and start ascending the stairs unless you see a cracked containter to the left side. Proceed through it and get to the highest Deck (4th). Choose the left door. Search 4th and 3th Decks (use the snake technic again). If you find nothing - move to the MER. If you fail to obtain BoltCutters - restart the game.

- Heli items - run up the stairs instead at the right side and reach Helipad. Use BoltCutters and/drop Gas Can(s) (or just drop Gas Cans if you have no BoltCutters). If you haven't obtain all three heavies yet, run then to the 5th Deck, descend to the 4th Deck and do the same as mentioned below.

If you have all three heavies already, run straight to 7th Deck and use ChainSpool. Check Life Raft area for Pump and Sub Headlight. If you see no Pump, restart the game. If you see no Sub Headlight, proceed or restart: it may be somewhere on Upper Decks or in Cargo Hold—it’s up to you which way to choose.

Once you use ChainSpool, start thorough scouting of 7th/8th Deck. Look for Key, DuctTape, Battery (if you haven’t found one on Lower Decks), and Gas Cans (if you failed to find any before). Check all rooms. If something is missing, you still have some time to check 6th Deck, but beware of monster and watch your inventory so it has enough empty slots for all items you need.

When you have everything, finish Life Raft. It would be nice if you make a lot of noise so monster comes to catch you. You can turn on Radio and drop it nearby to attract monster as well. Once you finish, jump down to the 5th Deck door and run towards Helipad.

Ideally monster should be alerted at this moment and it will follow you after Life Raft, so you can start Heli fixing. Once you enter Helipad, turn the valve to block the entrance and start preparations (unless you did most of the fixing beforehand). As the new rules prohibit leaving fueling Heli unattended unless you’re spotted by monster, make sure (once you start fueling) that monster is either aware of you or at least tries to reach your destination. Let monster spot/pursue you and run towards Sub room. Finish the required preparation of Sub, push the button, wait for 2 minutes, guard the doors, push the button again, exit the level—and voilà.

**Upper Decks:**

A little trickier start point, as you have fewer possibilities to finish successfully (but in case of good RNG this starting point is better, as you cover a shorter distance in total).

Once you exit the spawn room, ALWAYS run to the left, so you'd descend the left staircase. It helps to scout both 4th and 3rd Decks properly and enter the proper corridor leading to MER. Look for all possible heavies except Welder Kit—it’s okay to obtain it at the other side of 3rd Deck in the worst case) → place ChainSpool → follow all the instructions from this point as for Lower Decks.

As this run requires more intentory management, you may be need to free slots to grab another useful item. A perfect place for that is 8th Deck. If you already have Gas Cans, drop them from 8th Deck so you can pick them up later once you finish Life Raft. It'd better to find a Backpack to ease the inventory management.

If you fail to find both ChainSpool and BoltCutters, restart the game. If you see no Pump at Life Raft area, restart the game.

All you should know about monsters + some hacks

Brute

This huge block is the easiest enemy in the game. The only danger about him is his speed and strength (no locked doors can stop him). In all other cases he's very weak: ultimately dumb (any noise can distract his attention from the players), can't set traps at all, very loud steps and bright light out of his face (you'll be aware about his presence in advance). If you hide in room, Brute will check only one place in search of you.

Hunter

Tends to be the most formidable foe and the worst variant during the speedruns. Unlike other monsters, Hunter can travel through the ship via vents and appear instantly in case he leave green eggs. Hunter has an ability appear instantly even at the very beginning of the game. His steps are less louder and he is half-transparent, what can be a menace in dark rooms. Also, unlike other monsters, Hunter disappears in the nearest vent or even the side of the ship once the player run away. When you hide in room, Hunter can check up to two locations.

Fiend

Intelligent monster with purple aura around him. The most notorious danger about him is his smart behaviour: Fiend can set traps and catch inattentive players behind the nearest corner. Even if Fiend is very slow, his magic abilities give him an advantage in long corridors - he can block doors and freeze player on the plain view. The main weakness of Fiend is his aura - it causes all lights to blink once he appear near of it.

Hacks (the list will be updated once I get something new to share):

- If you let the Egg Timer ring properly three times, the next start of it cause instant ringing without a need to wait for 30 seconds
- The noise of working crane for Hunter seems to be more interesting than a working radio - Hunter even ignores the latter totally

This guide aims to give you everything you need to know to be able to start speedrunning this game at the highest level

If you want to be a good Monstrum speedrunner - this guide is for you.

Hello pals, my name is Alex, and I'm from far away Russia. Some time ago I started speedrunning of Monstrum and after many attempts I got the understanding how it works. Now I share my opinions with you.

When you appear at the starting location, the first and essential step is to realise which deck are you at. You have only three variants (3rd, 5th, 6th). Also keep in mind, that Brute, for example, mostly spawn at the any deck (the same preferably) in a minute, Fiend spawns at the same deck at the minute, Hunter spawns immediately .
Before you start a game, you should decide, which kind of speedrun you want to perform (Life Raft, Helicopter, Submarine, 100% or Death%). Let's have a look at each of them:

Life raft:
Ideally for you is to appear at upper deck. If you spawn at the 5th deck - run down the stairs and investigate the rooms the 3/4th decks. Consider that you should seek for the Chain Spool at doors of the same side where the stairs are - opposite rooms nearly never contains a single necessary item except possible Ducttape.
If you spawn at the 6th deck - search for the Power-Locked Room - it may contain Spool. If you find Barricaded door - restart the game, it means there's no power-locked door at the same deck.
If you manage to obtain Chain Spool - head for the Bridge at 8th deck and search for the Ducttape. It may be on control panel, near the broken table or at the desk with three drawers. If not - check the drawers, sometimes it might be at the upper one. If you fail - quickly check the rooms of the 8th and 7th decks. If you fail - restart the game.
The last step is to obtain Pump at the Life Raft area. If you fail - restart the game.
When you prepare the Life Raft and Hunter is you opponent - be careful, he'll certainly come for you, so it may be wise to obtain the Radio and distract him. To save some time - jump from the 7th deck down to the 5th one behind the life raft location, but try to land on the door of the 5th deck - it'll prevent you from the death. Pro players may just jump as close to the LR gate as possible to activate the trigger just before the death.

Helicopter
This route might be completed without visiting the upper decks, but it's random. For this kind of speedun it's better to appear at the upper deck, not the lower one. Run to the bridge, there might be key. If you fail - run to the life raft and the the deck - two gasoline canisters often appear on the boxes and barrels. Retrieve them and check all rooms of 7th deck - there's a big chance you can obtain key and both canisters (if not - try the room at the 8th deck). Than "jump" to the 5th deck and run fast to the 4rd deck. Check all the rooms - bolt cutters may be found there. If not - you have little time to check two rooms (they may not appear at all) at the 3nd deck or Machine Engine Room. Also you might obtain the Bolt Cutters at the power-locked door either at 5th or 6th deck.
If you retrieve everything, run back to the pad. This time choose the left way - this way steam is deactivated and you won't spend time running around. Start cutting the wires and begin with the left front and then go counterclockwise, so the front right wire will be cut the last. Next - choose the left near container to try. If not - mostly the opposite container contains fuel cart. Get it off and fill it with gasoline. Open the copter door, attach pipe and start the fueling.
The next part is essential - prevent the monster from entering the pad. Use steam to block it, check the direction they want to break in and block them in advance. Check the watch - you have 84 seconds to wait.

Submarine

This speedrun depends on which deck you appear. If you appear the the 3rd deck - you may be able to prepare the Sub without exiting the lower decks. Check the rooms at 3rd deck to retrieve Welder Kit and Battery, Also check 2nd and 1st deck for them. Ignore all lower-locked doors - you still need the Fuse.
If everything is okay - the hardest part is left to find the HeadLight. It might be at the containers, but you must be lucky to find it. If you fail - restart the game.
If you appear at the LR side:
Run to the bridge to check the battery. If not - run to the life raft to check the headlight. If you fail - restart the game.
When you retrieve the headlight, check all the rooms at the 7th and 8th deck. Security room is the most likely place to contain the battery.
"Jump" to the the 5th deck and run to the 3rd one at the Submarine side. Check all the possible rooms - you need the Welder Kit. Also Welder Kit may be spawned at the Machine Engine Room. If you running towards Submarine lower decks and Brute is your opponent - be careful - in this case Brute appear in the one 3rd deck's room, so don't get caught! If you fail to obtain the Welder Kit there - check the 2nd and the 1st decks. If not - restart the game.
Use the Welder Kit, place the Headlight, attach the battery and then run upstairs to insert Fuse (try to follow this order). Then activate the charging and get control of the cart - you can block the entrance to the charging room with it. If you fail to prevent monster from breaking the doors - run upstairs and then jump down.
You have 2 minutes. If you let the monster in - let him see you or else he'll destroy the station.

100%
Even if this kind of run pretend to be the hardest one (finding all 10 items across the ship seems to be an impossible task), this run has more possibility to be finished successfully. You need to know the following to apply this run.
Consider the ship to consist of 4 main parts: Lower Decks, Upper Decks, Container Cargo and Machine Engine room. While you investigate the ship, you should always think where all items could be. Even if all rooms except some of them are always the different, items spawn rules are always the same, and you should know them (see the end of the guide to learn the rules of spawns). It helps you to skip the huge part of the ship in case you was able to obtain necessary items elsewhere. The best order for speedrun is Life Raft-Helicopter-Submarine. Always make sure the Helicopter is ready before you go to Submarine. If you want to save some time - lure monster away from helipad to prevent the destruction of fuel cart

Death%

If you appear at the 5th or 6th deck - run to the 7th and jump down to the 5th deck. If you appear on the 3rd deck - try to be killed by steam in the corridor.

Spawn rules for items (@ symbol means this item can be obtained behind the locked doors as well, % symbol means this item might be found multiple times without involving locked doors, "NO" means this item cannot be obtained behind locked doors, "NO+" means this item can be found only once):

Chain Spool (@): Lower decks or Machine Engine room.

Ducttape (%, NO): Mostly at upper decks. There's a chance it might spawn at lower decks as well. The chance of obtaining two Ducttapes is low

Pump (@): Near of life raft or in containers

Key (%,@): Upper decks. Chance of obtaining two Keys is very low

Gasoline cans (%, NO): Anywhere (rooms, Machine Engine, LR area)

Bolt Cutters (@): Lower decks, containers (lowest possibility), Machine Engine room (The most cruel item to obtained, really).

Welder Kit (NO+): Lower decks, Machine Engine room.

Battery (@): Lower decks, upper decks.

Headlight (NO+): Near the life raft, upper decks (5/6, rarely at 7th in case of Mess Hall) or in containers

Fuse (%, @): Anywhere expect the open areas
