Personally I think time for speedruns should be called at the results screen, rather than beating the 8-4 boss.
The credits level is a legit part of the game. It can be speedrun, and it applies to your high score.
Also, it's very possible (and in my experience, common) to enter bonus levels even after the credits level is over.
Interesting thought but in my opinion the credits are, well, credits. The main objective of the game is clearing the story mode which ends when you beat Mecha-Set (8-6 not 4 btw)
I could see credits being part of the 100% category but for Any% nah.
I'm not a mod though, so ultimately that's not my call :d
It goes both ways. The credits level acts as an "optional" level, where you can either play it or not. There's another game I run where you have a credits sequence at the end of the last quest, but have to skip it and call time at the end results screen.
The game really isn't over until the final results appear. It might make sense to call time at the end results in this case. The faster you clear the credits, the better.
The credits level has gameplay. Sure you can't game over, but you can play it much faster than if you just set the mouse down and let it run. Also, the credits level has its own results screen just like any other level, because it is a level.
Also, the fact that you can be forced to play a bonus level (gameplay) after the credits should prove that the game isn't truly over yet. The bonus levels could probably be strategically avoided anyway by not catching treasures.
Besides, the game does not say "X Difficulty Cleared" until the results screen, so it is reasonable to assume that you have not cleared the game until you reach that screen. You won't even get a registered high score if you quit before the results screen, because you didn't complete the game.
This is not the only game I've seen where the credits are put inside of their own level. Just because the credits are put inside of a level doesn't mean it isn't still a level.
Alright, I'm going to revive this thread, since it's been on my mind lately and more people are submitting runs.
Full disclaimer: I'm not the one who created this game on SRC, nor am I the one who set up all the rules. There are only 23 runs, with 10 more waiting for verification, and since there's more activity on this game than before, I'm seeking a second opinion about changing the rules (or, moving leaderboards around) to have the main run extend all the way to the final results screen.
It might be somewhat controversial, but I'm more than willing to hear everyone out.
Read ScytheRider's above post for details.

I think making "No Credits" subcategory is unneeded overhead.
Pending runs could be validated under current terms (with Mecha-Set defeat stopping the clock) but all new runs must stop after the credits level.
Eh, my take on this is that killing mecha Set counts as beating the game so the time should stop there. You can pass the entire credits without making a single input, so it wouldn't count as "meaningful play" in that case. It is a common rule to end the timer on the last meaningful input.
That being said, the credits level can be played and can even unlock bonus levels. NieR: Automata Ending E also ends after the credits fight (sorry for the spoiler lol) but that category is a bit more "100%" than what we're doing. Also you cannot finish the game by afk'ing there xd If there's actual interest in category I would be voting to let Any% stay the way it is, and have, idk, Credits%? Any% /w Credits? But that's still a big if; I personally wouldn't ever want to run it (largely because of the long unskippable cutscene just to play for 30 more seconds).
Don't remember if 100% currently requires credits but at the very least I'd agree credits should be a part of 100%.
all new runs must stop after the credits level.
Would be pretty bad, all new runs would be at a big disadvantage when trying to beat the old ones.
//I just realized that I already replied to this topic 4 years ago, lmao, completely forgot. Glad I'm agreeing with myself xdddd
100% doesn't require credits to be played; same task. Mecha-Set.
Thank you, all, for the input, I'll leave the categories as is.
I forgot to say that it is not necessary to shoot down all the spheres in the bonus level (if you do not shoot down 1 sphere or more)? Some players may experience crashes after completing the credit levels.

Damn, I recorded my new run with the credits section in it as a required step. 🫠
