Fix for Game Freezing Before Crashing Through the Glass

# Fix for Game Freezing Before Crashing Through the Glass

## The issue

A common issue that has been pointed out every once in a while by members of the community is that the game freezes at the very end, right before the timer is about to be stopped. The game will freeze or stutter at the frame below. Sometimes you can only advance it by pausing and unpausing the game.

This issue usually appears when the game is played on PC and it is attempted to be displayed at a higher refresh rate than 60fps. This issue can appear in full screen mode but it is more common in windowed mode, especially since higher refresh rates have become the standard on more modern hardware.

Please follow either of the fixes below if you are affected.

## The fix

### Method 1: NVIDIA Control Panel (Nvidia GPUs only)

If your computer uses an Nvidia GPU, you can cap the refresh rate of the game to 60fps in the *NVIDIA Control Panel* software.

1. Open NVIDIA Control Panel and select **3D Settings > Manage 3D settings**
2. Select the **Program Settings** tab
3. In the list of available programs, look for **Limbo (limbo.exe)**. If you cannot find it there, add it with the **Add** button
4. In the settings list, look for **Max Frame Rate**, select **On** and cap it at **60 FPS**
5. Click **Apply** and restart Limbo
6. Now it should work again without issues

### Method 2: Rivatuner Statistics Server

If your computer has a non-Nvidia GPU or you don't want to use NVIDIA Control Panel, you can use the software *Rivatuner Statistics Server*.

1. Download the software from [the official website](https://www.guru3d.com/download/rtss-rivatuner-statistics-server-download/) (make sure to click the correct download button!) and install it
2. Start the software and click the green **Add** button in the bottom left, look for your Limbo EXE and add it
3. In the menu for *limbo.exe*, set the **Framerate limit** to **60**
4. (optional) Disable **Show On-Screen DIsplay** if you do not wish for the FPS to be displayed in your game window
5. Minimize Rivatuner and restart Limbo
6. Now it should work again without issues

## End notes

These methods will help you get the game running properly again. If you know of any other software which can limit the FPS of a game, feel free to use that one instead.

**IMPORTANT:** The issue of the frame freeze is, as far as we know, a **fixable** game issue. Any runs which have the game freeze at the end will **not** get verified. If you have tried these fixes and it doesn't work, please get in touch on our [Discord](https://discord.gg/HKAssZE).

I hope this helps some new runners! Please let me know if I missed anything, I will update this guide if necessary.

Keyboard Ghosting Tutorial - for bear trap, box boost, dead body and box push - by Parhelion

o/

In this video you can see 4 examples where you can use keyboard ghosting (but it can be used in many more situations): bear trap RMJ , box boost RMJ (tree skip) , dead body RMJ , and box push RMJ. The video shows the inputs in real time AND a slow motion version with explanaitons for each input (feel free to stop the video to be able to read the explanations).

The Big Room Project - all movement and visual cues [picture] - by Parhelion

Hi :)

"The Big Room Project" is a picture that contains all the visual cues and timings that you have to do in the Big Room, in order to get an optimal piston cycle. The strats presented in this picture are NOT the only strats known, nor the absolute fastest possible ways to do them, but they ARE the basic strats that every Limbo runner should know, in order to get early piston cycles. As you know, each piston cycle is ~10sec long, so the benefit of getting an earlier cycle is huge.

The main strats explained in this picture are:
- optimal elevator movement (to get the first box, and to get to the mini-cave) ;
- optimal box setup inside the mini-cave (setup for the multiswitch strat later) ;
- elevator box jump and positioning (for a quick transition between strats) ;
- the multiswitch strat (to quickly get both boxes on the right, towards the piston).
