Currently, the Leaderboards are dominated by Wii, WiiU, and Nintendo Switch Versions of the game, with the fastest times for N64 placing 19 and 22 for Any% and 100% respectively. I believe this gap is wide enough to at the very least give the N64 its own category.
Traditionally, the leaderboards have been set up this way so that runners can start on whatever (officially released) version of the game they have available to them at the time of early learning and practicing to get more familiar/comfortable with the route before moving to a version of the game with faster load times if they decide to compete for a top spot on the leaderboard. More recently, however, there's been interest shown in the community with splitting the leaderboards by console because of the difference in load times, accessibility concerns (mostly with the Switch/2 versions), etc.
I'm planning on making an effort soon to get more objective timings between the versions so that we can make a more informed decision on how to split the consoles properly (mainly if we should combine Wii/WiiU/WiiVC vs. WiiUVC, Switch vs. Switch 2, etc.), but this will take some time to compile data for.
This can also potentially lead to having a board for emulator, but that would require much more research on which emulators are allowed, which versions of emulators are allowed, etc., so no promises on that front for now.
