Is there a chance of creating a category of speedrunning the entire Jampack disc, i.e. completing all 10 game demos?

My proposal for completion (In no particular order):

Medievil 2: Screen goes black at the end of the playable section of the demo

Syphon Filter 2: Screen goes black at the end of the playable section of the demo

Spider-man: Reach the start of the cutscene at the end of the level

Legend of Dragoon: Dart delivers the final blow against the boss at the end of the demo

Hot Shots Golf 2: Screen goes black after the third hole

Nascar Rumble: Complete both races

Speed Punks: Complete one race

Tomba 2: Complete all 4 goals

Grind Session: Complete all 3 goals

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2: Reach the 40,000 point high score in Single Session

Hey Dolphin! I love this idea.

Have you adminned for any games on here before?? If you’d be interested, inbox me. Maybe we can discuss getting you on board. 😎

I have not. Would this run hinge on my admining though?

Hello, as someone who's also interested in running this category, I'd like to inquire about the progress of this category so I can know what to practice on in preparation.

Sorry for the sudden question!

Cool! Glad I'm not the only one to be trying it.

So I've been given admin status for this, here's my idea for the category, let me know if you disagree with anything (it's largely the same as what I suggested originally. These are partly based on how some of the other main games handle their runs):

All 10 vault demos must be completed in any order, timer starts upon pressing X at the first demo's control explanation screen and ends upon reaching the completion requirement for the final demo. You may exit each demo with controller commands as soon as you reach the completion requirement. The completion requirements for each game are:

MediEvil 2: Screen fades to black at the end of the boss fight.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2: Reach the 40,000 point high score in Single Session mode and select End Run to receive a Big Score Competition passcode. Timer ends when the passcode appears.

Nascar Rumble: Use default settings ('some' powerups, standard single race). Reach the results screen of both races (Rip Tide and Ship Shape) that appear after crossing the finish line.

Spider-Man: Reach the end of the level. Timer ends as soon as the cutscene starts.

Syphon Filter 2: Screen fades to black at the end of the level.

Tomba 2/Tombi 2: Complete all 6 goals (Go to the Burning Shed, Pour the Water In, Save the Crab, Chick from an Egg, Where is the Bird's Nest, and Wind it Up). Timer ends as soon as the word, "CLEAR" appears under the final goal.

Speed Punks/Speed Freaks: Cross the finish line at the end of the 5 lap race.

Hot Shots Golf 2/Everybody's Golf 2: Complete all 3 holes, normal swing mode. Timer ends when your net score appears on the final results screen.

Grind Session: Complete all 3 goals (25,000 point score, knock over 5 trash cans, complete the 5 gaps). Timer ends when 25,000 points appear on the screen, 5 of 5 gaps appear on the screen, and the 5 counter in the top left corner appears on the screen.

The Legend of Dragoon: Screen fades to black when Dart delivers the final blow against the boss.

I think these seem good, yeah, I even made a quick run with that ruleset:

The only changes I'd personally recommend would be making it so you don't need to pause to show the results in Grind Session before you exit the demo (unless I'm interpreting it wrong) and making it so you can exit out of the THPS2 demo once you score 40,000 points without needing the password

For Grind Session, no need to pause, just as long as the numbers show up at some point for the run to prove you got all of them, I can reword that as such. For THPS2, my thought about this is that it takes time for the score to tally up on the screen, so by ending the run, it proves that you actually got the score of 40,000 instead of having the player do the math in their head in an instant of something like, 30,534 plus a 9,436 trick at the end, then exiting without realizing they're 30 points short. But would it make more sense to simply say, "screen must display a score of at least 40,000"?

BTW is the first checkpoint in Syphon Filter 2 where the PAL version ends or something? Because that's what the rules for the single run on this page say to do, but there's still half a level after that before the screen fades to black.

I figured out the problem with Syphon Filter 2's demo actually and it's incredibly silly (tl;dr - you need to run the demo with your controller in Digital Mode)

Syphon Filter 2's US demos actually ends quite a bit later than in any of the runs here (the US runs end after a tunnel sequence where Gabe puts on his Night-Vision Goggles) - the only problem is a lot of emulators actually have difficulty running the demo. Duckstation for some reason would always time itself out after a minute, although it actually loads the level and lets you play (the same of which can't be said for Mednafen, Bizhawk and Xenary). The only emulator I knew of that would let you play it to completion was ePSXe, although nowadays using ePSXe for speedruns seems to be pretty disliked here.

I tried running on Duckstation with anything that I could find that might've worked on ePSXe, and one run managed to get through. As it turns out, the fix is to run Syphon Filter 2 with your controller on Digital mode.

For whatever reason, the game doesn't process inputs for its reset timer in Analog mode (I'm guessing the game thinks you aren't pressing any inputs and boots you back to the menu like many other demos do if you leave your controller idle for a period of time), but on Digital mode, your controller inputs get put through fine.

I have noticed however that the demo will softlock itself at the end sometimes and I'm not sure as to the exact cause of it though (so I guess the solution is just starting at Syphon Filter so you don't get a softlock in the middle of your run).

Maybe a note can be included for digital mode in the rules. Thoughts on THPS2?

i think having that is fine, when played optimally you can already get 40,000 points in one combo anyway, and it usually just takes doing a short flip trick or whatever to finish the tallying if you have to do multiple combos.

Okay. New category has been made. The run you made won't work though because of the Syphon Filter demo ending early unfortunately. Solid practice run though
