We found the deployable ball weapon mechanic in this game is tedious and frustrating. But it also seems like it has a decent skill ceiling, and can speed up boss kills quite a bit. The first boss kill can be sped up by holding on to the laser from earlier in the level. There are multiple endings to the game, depending on how you move through the mission selection.
