Autosplitter

At the moment I (Urinstein) take care of the autosplitter, so if you have questions or bug reports, add and dm me on Discord.
Be aware that the autosplitter only works on updated. Original is not supported.

To use the autosplitter right click Livesplit and go to ***Edit Splits...***

In the next window make sure you have declared Hotline Miami as the splits' game, then click ***Activate*** and then go to ***Settings***.

At the top of the autosplitter settings you find the standard options ***Start***, ***Split*** and ***Reset***, in case you wish to turn any of these off.
More importantly, below you find the settings for when to split. Choose the category you want to run and then whether you want to split on every part, every level or (if you feel particularly degen today) every floor.
Hover over the settings for details. Do not check more than one of these settings.

That's it, your autosplitter should be running now.
Unless you are playing any version of Hotline other than the Steam or GoG versions. Only these two are supported.

Make sure you have the right number of splits, to go with your splitter settings.
For ***Parts*** just create 5 splits.
For ***Levels*** create 20 splits [or download these splits here](https://www.speedrun.com/resourceasset/c2do0).
For ***Floors*** you should definitely download the ones uploaded in the Resources.

If you download any of these splits, you will have to put ***Subsplits*** into your Livesplit layout, not ***Spits***.
if you want to run All Masks, you will have to add an extra split at the end for the second Resolution.

If you choose to split every floor in ILs, keep in mind that every floor transition will be split, so for example Hot & Heavy will have 7 splits, as you enter Floor 1 four different times.
Also make sure for ILs to change your active comparison to Game Time.
The IL splitter only works for levels, that have a scorescreen with IGT.
The IL splitter is only activated in the level intro screen, so after starting or changing your setting to IL make sure to reload the level from the level select.

Since the autosplitter will at all times read out the IGT, it is possible to show it even during full game runs. Just add an additional timer you your layout and set it to display IGT.
The **Track death in IGT** settings makes it so that when you die, the IGT does not jump back but instead includes your deaths' timelosses in the IGT.

Data Dump

This is a collection of Dump's data mining efforts. Crucially it has all the AI logic analysed and written into a table, but it also has some other stuff.

Easiest and fastest way to beat Decadence and Neighbors (PS5 Version only).

You can go in and out without taking down any guard — just leave the building normally with no glitches or anything.

Fix to Updated Version Crashing

Updated hotline is known to crash every 20-30 minutes of continous gameplay in case of integrated GPU due to unhandled memory leaks (on the Original version it happens no matter what, hence amongst many other reasons we don't run on it). That can be fixed in two ways:

1.1. If you have a both dedicated AND integrated GPU (mostly a case for gaming laptops of any sort), the game by default will start from integrated level (casus of phyre engine powering the game/bunch of other older engines too). You will need to adjust it manually. Go to control panel of your graphics card.

1.2. For NVIDIA, select 3D settings management from the list on the left. At global settings tab, adjust "Preferred GPU" from "Auto selecton" to "High-efficient NVIDIA processor".

1.3. If you wish to change this just for Hotline, go from global settings to program settings, select and add the game executable and change "Preferred GPU" from "Auto selecton" to "High-efficient NVIDIA processor".

Alternatively...

2.1. In the resources tab, you can find a 100% file or a file w/o Charlie (more suitable for running All Levels). Download either of these.

2.2. Change the name of the file to SaveData.sav (if it's not named like that already). Do not tamper with the format. The file should be weighting at 256KB.

2.3. Copy and paste the SaveData.sav file to the directory where the save is located: C:\Users\(your_name)\Documents\My Games\HotlineMiami . Replace the file when asked.

Sounds absurd and we have no idea why this works, but it just works. If you need NG save instead, you can find one in HM Ultimate Resources folder in the said Resources tab. (HMUR 4.2 -> Saves -> 0% -> SaveData.sav)

FIX: Deleting SaveData.sav does not give a fresh save file

A common issue for NG categories is that deleting SaveData.sav in the documents folder leads to the game starting with a non-fresh savefile. This is not a Steam cloud issue.

In the Hotline installation folder (typically .../*Steam/steamapps/common/hotline_miami/*) there are the various save files for Hotline Original. When you start Hotline Updated without a SaveData.sav file, the game generates a savefile from your Original save. For completeness sake, you can delete all of:

- *saves.dat* (this tracks your unlock status of levels, guns, etc. as well as level high scores)
- *achievements.dat* (this tracks your completion status of some achievos like using all guns)
- *stats.dat*
- *tempsave.sav*
- *volume.dat* (this tracks your volume level)
- *mask.nfo*
- *pause.bmp*

As a bonus, after deleting your Original save, you can go into Original, just to set the volume to your preferred levels. This setting will then be copied over every time you delete your Updated save.

Hot fix - Game Crashing or unable to run

1. if you are suddenly unable to run the game, or maybe it is the first time you are trying to run it, and it crashes at start up, go to your steam library, right click hotline miami, go to properties, click the upper tab that says “local files”, and click “verify integrity of game cache”

1a. find the .exe of hotline miami (normally named HotlineMiami.exe), if you created a desktop shortcut that will work, if you didn't create a shortcut go to steam\steamapps\common\hotline_miami\hotlinemiami and right click it. If it is your desktop shortcut, follow this same procedure. First thing, right click and hit “run as administrator”. Now, go to properties, click the top tab “compatibility”, and under “compatibility mode”, check the box for “run this program in compatibility mode for:”, then set it to “Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

1b. If you created a desktop shortcut that will work, if you didn't create a shortcut go to steam\steamapps\common\hotline_miami\hotlinemiami, right click it. If it is your desktop shortcut, follow this same procedure. First thing, right click and hit “run as administrator”. Now, go to properties, click the top tab “compatibility”, and under “compatibility mode”, check the box for “run this program in compatibility mode for:”, then set it to “Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

- Check if you have DirectX Drivers and OpenAL to run the application.
