Hosted by GreatGoblin42, The Goblin Goblet - Hobbit Speedrun Tourney takes place with a new format on Friday, January 30th at 10pm CET / 4pm EST
It works as follows: The format is PC NMG. There will be 16 runners competing for points in 2 rounds, where all runners run once in each of the 2 rounds. Runners will compete in groups of 8. After round 2, the 8 runners with the most points move on to the finals (rounds 3, 4, and 5), while the other 8 runners are eliminated. To start round 3, point totals are reset, with each runner being given starting points based on their placement. Now each round will consist of 1 race of all 8 remaining runners. Whoever has the most points at the end of round 5 wins!
Signups are open for everyone with the only requirements being that you're able to stream your perspective and follow instruction given in English through voice chat. Runners of all skill levels are welcome! Signups are on a first come first serve basis. If we get 16 entrants, any further entrants will be held as alternates. The event is expected to last 4 hours.
Top finishers will be written in the history books of hobbit lore, AND the winner will receive a custom Goblin Goblet mailed to them.
The tournament will be streamed from https://www.twitch.tv/greatgoblin42

Hey everyone, starting now there's a new version on the leaderboard: GCN Patched.
This is the GameCube version of the game with a patch applied to remove frame time inconsistencies, meaning it's a fix for longjump glitch. This is an entirely separate version on the leaderboard meaning that it will not compete with any existing runs or versions.
It is not meant to replace any of the console versions, but rather to be a different more accessible version with less frustration. Due to technical limitations as well as the spirit of the version being accessibility/improvements this version is only playable on Dolphin Emulator. For more detailed rules click here.
And of course if you want to get set up with the patch follow the patch instructions here.
This versions leaderboards are starting off completely blank, let's see what becomes of it.
We're hosting another free to enter Hobbit speedrunning tournament that anyone can join.
Taking place on November 21st at 10pm CET / 4pm EST it's a PC NMG tournament that features a new format where all participants race at the same time, with the last few players that finish being eliminated. This then repeats with another race and another set of eliminations over and over until one champion remains. A format that values consistency even more than ever before and doesn't risk matching you against a world record contender in the first round.
See the video below for more details and a visual breakdown of the format. Signups are open until November 17th through the HastyHobbits Events discord (click me).
Whether you're there for fun or to aim for a top spot you are welcome to join. The only requirement are that you're able to stream your perspective and can follow instruction given in English through voice chat.
The top placers will be given discord roles, shoutouts, bragging rights and be immortalized on the tournament stream and vods. The winner may even get interviewed and featured in an exhibition match given that time allows it.
I hope to see you there!
It is highly encouraged for all runners who are deciding to speedrun PC All Quests to use the tracker component. It can be added like any other livesplit component to your layout, details on how to install and use the component will be on the github link below. It is completely open sourced and available for viewing by anyone. This is merely a component to make the verifiers job easier, but also gives you instant feedback after your completed run if you did all the required quests.
Hi all, an important and hopefully exciting update for you today!
PC Speedruns of The Hobbit have long been plagued by strange inconsistencies between hardware - the most obvious instance being with longjumps. Some player experience long jump glitch which will at best slow them down and at worst kill their run, while others have longjumps that go significantly further than the average, making some tricks become much easier and their movement speeds up by default. It's unrealistic to expect every PC runner to play on the exact same hardware and even then that might not solve the issue. We don't want this hobby to become an expensive game of hardware roulette, so I am happy to share with you: The Hobbit Speedrun Patch for PC!
This patch does just one thing: lock the game's physics to it's (already locked) frame rate. This means everyone should experience the same physics. This is a must to keep the leaderboard competitive and the speedrun accessible. From now on this patch will be mandatory for any PC runs on the main leaderboard. Any runs prior to this announcement won't be affected. We'll be carefully monitoring any issues that might pop up.
You can get the patch right now. Either run HobbitInstaller (https://github.com/milankarman/HobbitInstaller/releases/) or get the manual patch from the SRC resources (https://www.speedrun.com/hobbit/resources). You'll know your installation is successful when you see "SRPatch 0.2" on your main menu.
That's all, hopefully you're all as excited for this as I am. A massive shoutout to MD_Pi; without her insight and prior work I wouldn't have been able to make this.
