Hi, are Linux runs valid? Are there any limitations regarding the compatibility tools used to run the game?
I know this game has some OS-dependent technicalities, like its uptime affecting the dance minigames, disabling the audio devices causing voiceline skips, or pausebuffering being dependent on OS side keyboard settings. Possibly many others I'm not aware of.
It's not really explicitly mentioned anywhere, at least the search function didn't return any results. On one hand, there's a Linux specific downgrading tool in the Resources tab, on the other the following excerpt from the ruleset may or may not apply here depending on its interpretation:
Using OS functions to affect the game in an unintended way during the run is prohibited.
Running the game through what is an emulation layer may or may not introduce any number of unintended side effects, known or not.
Some clarification would be appreciated.
linux runs are fine. somebody on discord asked a month ago if they can speedrun SA on linux and hoxi - the supermod - was fine with that
can't really answer the 2nd question about the limitations; if you can/want to, just join the discord server and ask on #gtasa-help channel
it is allowed, the thing about OS modification
you are using linux which is open source and if you using legit version of the game thats fine
