Questions, suggestions, comments, etc.

I'd love to know what the "glitchless" qualifier means in the category name. I think it raises a couple questions like whether cancelling enemy attacks is a glitch or not. I read the rules, but they don't seem to be very clear about it.

I'm currently practicing this and seeing how manageable this game is for speedrunning. I think in the future I might ask you for moderator to refine the rules @Cvea - if that's alright with you.

BTW: I joined the Discord, but not a lot of activity there from what I can see. Particularly in English.

Hello, this clarification isn't currently planned. When I wrote the rules, I didn't know the game as well as I do now.

I think it's hard to call it a bug, but at the same time, I don't think this feature of the game's combat system can be considered 100% fair. Similar mechanics, as I recently discovered, are found in games with a similar combat system, such as Kenshi.

I think the community should decide whether an additional category is needed.

Once we reach a consensus, I will, of course, create a new speedrun, if needed, and I will also verify your run.

It's worth sharing a bit of history here to give you an idea of the current state of Evil Islands runs.

When I started doing runs a few years ago, the game wasn't as popular as it is now. I wanted to use them to launch my streaming career and bring the game to a wider audience. We've been able to achieve some results thanks to the great people in the community, but even now the community isn't very active.

One of the challenges in developing is that my English skills are very low. Therefore, the community I'm part of is developing within a single language. In fact, my English isn't good enough to write a response without using a translator or AI.

In any case, I'd appreciate your attention to the game, and I'd also appreciate it if you join the race and post your runs.

It's possible that some of my thoughts might be unclear due to the translator.

And yes, for some reason speedrun.com stopped sending me notifications, so it took me a long time to respond. Perhaps if it weren't for the messages on Discord, I wouldn't have noticed your replies.

@Hachimen Regarding the development of rules and races:

As far as I understand, the development of races and their rules is slow without competition and community. I suggest discussing the issue of dodging attacks in order to reach a decision together. It would probably be more convenient to do this on Discord, as there are several people there who understand the game well. However, we can do it here as well.

I've been out of the game and community for a while, but I plan to return soon.

Currently, I'm more focused on completing cool mods and challenges for the game. Not long ago, I decided to complete the Iron Man challenge online, although after Iron Man in the original game, I thought it would be too stifling. However, it turned out to be true, and it sent me on a bit of a tilt.

Hi, Cvea, appreciate your reply.

I'll be direct here because this is already getting needlessly verbose: please explain why there was a need to make the default category into "Any% Glitchless" instead of just "Any%". As far as I'm aware, the game only has a couple of innocuous glitches that could also be considered regular mechanics. Glitches like the ability to create magic without spending attribute points, going instantly from standing to prone when attacking, or breaking engagement with a mob that causes a miss - often on accident. Qualifying with "Glitchless" introduces a layer of ambiguity where someone interested in speedrunning, someone such as myself, is not certain if these minor glitches/mechanics are grounds for rejection or not - they absolutely shouldn't be considering how minor they are, nor should the leaderboard's rules really cherrypick these features, even if just to clarify that they're allowed.

So, for now, I'm looking for a good explanation why "Any% Glitchless" was, seemingly needlessly, made into the default category.

Hi, Hachimen! Okay, so to put it briefly.

The game simply doesn't have any critical glitches. Or I don't know of any.

Often, glitch-free speedrun categories include small features that weren't intended by the developers.

So, to put it briefly, I'm all for using dodging/cancelling attacks.

At least until I hear a contrary opinion, I'll tell you why not.

I'll clarify the rules now to eliminate this confusion.
