Thanks to the detective work of SOULCRY, a fellow runner, it's come to our attention that certain game instances are tied to a player's monitor's refresh rate.

All confirmed instances include text dialogue, the Chapter 1 carwash minigame, and character animations. As far as we can tell, it does not affect audio, transitions, character walk/run speed, etc.

Even so, we now realize that those who speedrun EOTM with a monitor above 60 Hz have a slight advantage over those who don't. For better distinction, as of December 26, 2025, we have added a variable called "Refresh Rate" to distinguish between runs running at 60 FPS and runs running at more than 60 FPS. The two options for this variable right now are 60 Hz and 60+ Hz. All future runs must use this variable.

If you have a 60+ Hz monitor but still wish to play the game at 60 FPS, follow this guide:

Windows 11:

• Open Settings.
• Go to System, Display, and Advanced display under Related settings.
• In Choose a refresh rate, select 60 Hz.

Windows 10:

• Open Settings.
• Go to Display and Advanced display settings,
• If you have multiple monitors, under Choose display, select the monitor you'll be using to speedrun EOTM in.
• Under Refresh Rate, select 60 Hz.

In the distant future, we might have runners include proof of their refresh rate in their runs; but for now, we'll rely on good faith and the trained eye.
