After discussing timing issues with NESCardinality, we've decided it was best to update the timing method for this game. Time used to start from an input on the title screen, but that seemed to cause some confusion as to what the exact frame was. We then started seeing some runs that would cut the duration of the title screen short, and then more recently skip the title screen entirely by holding start on the copyright screen.
The new timing method will now begin on the game board itself, on the first frame that the cursor is visible. If playing a category that requires opening the options menu, it is possible to prevent the cursor from appearing by holding down the select button as the game board loads. In this situation, time simply starts on the frame before the screen begins to fade out (some quick TAS testing shows that this is the same frame that the cursor would normally appear).
I've gone ahead and retimed most runs on the leaderboard already, and will be done with the rest soon. The rules have been updated with the timing method, and also expanded a bit to include some general guidelines.
The categories have also been condensed down a bit with the use of subcategory options. The Any% 2D and Any% 3D categories have been renamed to 2D (Unrestricted) and 3D (Unrestricted), in the hopes that everything looks more uniform and clean.
I hope everyone likes the changes overall. Feel free to share any feedback.
