In the rules it says you have to beat "all 12 levels" but there are 16 levels? In addition all the runs currently on the leaderboard go through all 16. Could we change the rules or add a category including all of them?

You willfully gave your mod position away. Nobody told you to do that. Perhaps take this as a lesson to not make hasty decisions.

So, the PS1 disc works in the PS3. The PS3 does not go above 60 fps. Is it allowed to play it on the PS3's PS1 emulator? It should be fairly similar to a legit experience.

Nowhere in the rules does it say that it has to be a new game.

other runners have played it on original console before, if that's the easiest way for you to be able to record the run as as long as the output video matches 60 fps then it should be ok.

for the new save rule it does state that save states are not allowed, and as Deepest Rainforest is the first level of the game (assuming that you start on African Jungle) then it's simply easier for the run to start on a new save, as there's really no advantage to playing from an existing file either way.

PS3 PAL limits itself to 50 fps. PS3 has a automatic HDCP in the HDMI that force me to send all my PS3 signal through a HDMI to HDMI converter to bypass the copyright protection in the signal. That extra piece of machine is very nice and it tells me that the input signal (HDMI from my PS3) is only 50 fps PAL. Thanks, machine! PS3's PS1 emulator is never gonna be more than 60 fps. The problem with this (hence my question) is that i can't add it as a run made on PS3. I can do it on the PS2 if PS3 is not allowed.

If there is no advantage from playing from a exsting save it shouldn't matter as long as the runner plays all the levels in order. Save states, in the PS3 gameplay it does not exist. Only saving to a "memory card" just like in the PS1 days. I'm not breaking any WRs here, but i just want to know for sure. Why? Because this game straight from the PS1 disc is insane. It's a shit game! But i like a challenge. I'm going to try to finish the game slightly faster than i did before, and if i manage to do it well i want to be able to submit the video here. Since my plan is to submit a spontaneous speedrun (maybe) i want to be sure that i follow the rules.

I deeply respect everyone that speedran this game, my first playthrough was hell.

hey! so to answer your questions a bit better;

1. you can run the game from PS3 console, when you submit it you can put it under PS2 and make a comment in the submission that it was ran on a PS3

2. generally the easiest way to tell that a run has been followed in order is if a new save is made. again as you say there's no solid rule on it, and if you do decide to do the run with an existing save slot we will accept it, but new save slots are the norm for most runs so it would make sense here as well

keep in mind if the current mod does say anything different what they say goes i guess, but this is the general consensus ive made with others :)
