Hello everyone, I want to bring up a thought I had a few months ago regarding bugs tolerance.
As you know, Windblown is still under development and is not bug-free. While some bugs in legacy versions will remain permanently (such as Damage Hex bypassing one-hit protection from 0.1 to 0.5, or Refilling Crystallize being suggested from 0.1 to 0.9 without trinkets/magifishes), there are other bugs that only affected specific sub-versions that are no longer accessible.
For example, in v0.9.2.11, the remains from previous death were visible on the map even within the fog of war. This allowed players to intentionally die in the brother room to create a marker for the correct path to the exit for their next attempt. This was fixed in v0.9.3 (see the patchnote).
While this specific exploit wasn't game-breaking (imo), the fact that it is no longer accessible raises a question: for versions currently under development, should we retroactively adapt our verification if an exploit is fixed later?
For instance, if a bug affected enemy HP (e.g., enemies always having clear sky HP), and that bug is fixed before the final revision of the version, we could consider rejecting the run after the fact (even if it was previously approved) if the bug created an unfair time advantage. Alternatively, the rejection could be negotiated if the exploit can be quantified as a fair time penalty. For example, this run skips the Koikoi twice using a swiftness glitch. Since this usually saves about 3 seconds per skip, a penalty of +6s could be added if the bug is fixed before the next major version.
What do you think?
Aside from the run mentioned, I don't think any other current runs would be affected if we implement this rule.
Thanks for your feedback.
Additionally, any runs performed on private beta versions will be automatically rejected. Since those versions are not available to the public and the patch notes are private, there is no way for us to verify the run's legitimacy. Also, it most-likely is against the NDA, so don't do it.
I think case by case. For a koikoi skip it doesn't matter if they patch it or not, i would just leave the run as is. For a hypothetical bug with enemies having clear sky hp i wouldn't accept such run.
