Seconded, especially considering this is (1) already built-in to the demo (as the only tracked metric, no less) and (2) there is evidence of interested competition for this score on the demo's official itch page comments. Only problem is what to name it (Step%? Low%?). I call it Step% in my TAS, but should be discussed.

This is what the moderator said about this category idea
But it'll probably be added in the full release
Ig the reason it isn't added yet is because we don't know the actual minimum number of steps possible yet. Once we know then maybe it could be added.
I haven't really been following this demo since submitting the first run here, but if players really want this category, I can add it. It's also just considerably more moderation ensuring consistency across stages, If anyone wants to help out and moderate, let me know.
Update: After doing some research it appears that speedrun.com doesn't allow for leaderboards to be sorted on non time based metrics. I'm trying to figure out a compromise but I'm not sure it's possible here.
@Sharppish I can help moderate / verify runs if you need any help. Just lmk what frame the time starts / ends.
Also, I think they were talking about the fastest time to get the lowest amount of steps. But even that has it's own set of problems. What's the lowest number of steps? What do we do if someone finds a new lowest step count? What if a TAS is required for the lowest step count? I think it's the best option, but if we want to add it, we'll need to know for sure the lowest number of steps. (also the lowest step count that I could get is 123)
Also, (I know this isn't really on-topic with the forum) but @Sharppish could you add level runs for all 11 levels? (10 if you don't include the starting screen) You could name the starting screen "Tutorial" and the rest of them "level 1, level 2 ... level 10"
