Leaderboard Restructure Suggestions

With the discovery of many new types of tricks and glitches, it is apparent that the current definitions of categories could use a bit of changing, as well as some changes to the leaderboards overall. The current idea is to go with three sub-categories within the Any% main category: Unrestricted, Restricted, and Glitchless. PC and PS5 can remain split, but ideally still mirror the same structure to keep things clean and simple.

A lot of our new findings tend to blur the line between what is considered in or out of bounds. What might be the best compromise would be to make a form of a vanilla category, or Glitchless, while separating out the tricks and glitches that push the boundary to a Restricted category. It wouldn't go absolutely crazy like the current Any% runs do, but it would try to push the game to its limits while still playing most of it. I think this would overall be the best way to make everyone happy without huge debates over what is considered legal for what category. Current Any% would just be instead labeled Unrestricted, as that is the nature of it. Do everything possible to finish the game fast with no restrictions.

Overall list of suggestions:

  • Remove Any% from the main categories list and move those runs to the proposed Unrestricted subcategory
  • Rename both Main Bosses categories to just Any% (PS5) and Any% (PC)
  • Rename No OOB to Restricted
  • Rename the current Restricted to Glitchless
  • Move runs from No OOB that don't use any banned tricks/skips (Listed below) to Glitchless

Current suggestions for subcategory rules:

Glitchless

  • Must fight all main bosses
  • Can use clever jumps/movement to skip cutscene/encounter triggers or forced walking
  • Cannot use any tricks or skips that utilize broken/invisible geometry or collision
  • Some examples of banned tech: Skipping mandatory fusion cells, Death Warping, Construction Zone Skip (Any version that uses thin/invisible collision), laser shootout room skip in Altess Levoire, Post-Corruptor highway jump (If it uses thin/invisible collision), Tachy Mode aerial cancel, Matrix 11 QTE Skip, Post-Eidos 7 invisible Lily/Adam glitch, area loading manipulation

There's probably more but this is a just rough list for now.

Restricted

  • Must fight all main bosses
  • Can use everything listed above that is banned in Glitchless (Except area loading manipulation)
  • Can use tricks or skips that blur the line between in and out of bounds (Unless it's very obviously out of bounds)
  • Cannot stand on large invisible collision meant to block the player out of the playable area
  • Cannot very obviously go out of bounds (A list of tricks that do this could be compiled in the rules if needed)

Unrestricted

  • Do anything to beat the game

Structuring the board this way I believe would be the easiest way to make everyone happy with how they'd prefer to run the game while still allowing flexibility for further changes if needed. For other main categories such as 100%, True Ending, All Bosses, etc, they could all use this same 3-way subcategory split and their rulesets if those categories call for it. Obviously you'd still keep difficulties and NG/NG+ as well for most of them.

There are also ideas for framerate separations due to what is or isn't possible when running above 60fps, but I don't currently know enough about that to have any real suggestions other than to at least add filter options so we can see which framerate limit was used if no category splits are made.

Lastly, I'd also like to suggest adding more active runners to be moderators such as BigSid119 and possibly even myself. Maybe one or two others like Daravae could go here as well. If any leaderboard changes need to happen in the future then lightening the load and decision making on the low number of active mods would go a long way.

As it stands currently, there are some runs that can't really be submitted with the structure/rules it has (The 1:59:30 I got recently as an example). I'm hoping it won't take too long to make the changes that most of the active community have pretty much agreed upon in the Discord server and in DM conversations that this post more or less summarizes.

State of the Game (leaderboard revamp + we need your input!)

Hello friends! Let me start by saying I was not here during the leaderboard's inception (I joined the speedrunning community in June 2024). Had I played a role in shaping things back then, maybe I would've made an effort to call for a simplification of the difficulty layout, which is what I decided
