This week, we Chinese runners discovered something that will affect the balance of speedrun. We found that some people walk fast, some people walk slowly. In outer space, the biggest gap we compared is 9s, which are queenseek and mila-veselov, and of course other runners are also included. This cannot be due to the use of game acceleration. We have tried various trials to find out where the problem is, however, we have tested vertical synchronization, frame rate, background occupancy, picture quality, viewing angle. It doesn't matter if the result is. I hope everyone can find out the problem and solve this problem that affects the speedrun balance.
We think it could possibly have to do with Monitor refresh rate, however that claim is uncertain. We noticed a pattern with our small 5 person sample size:
Sena + Milaveselov = 240 - 280hz (Fast speed) | Panzer + Azylooper = 165 - 180hz (Medium speed) | yuxi = 75hz (Slow speed)
This could just be a coincidence, however Azylooper did some testing, and the times are infact slower on lower refresh rates. Also - there are a BUNCH of triggers stacked up in the game code for that specific area of the game, which could be leading to this problem. We're still looking into it and testing.

So how can we solve it? Is it necessary to lock the screen refresh rate through other software? If so, should I open a category expansion or wait for the new version to be unified after it is released?
Is it even possible to enforce a refresh rate cap? I mean, theres no way of knowing what refresh rate a runner is on, and honestly running the game at a lower refresh rate sounds like a pain to me. Not to mention all of the existing runs on various refresh rates which would become obsolete. In my opinion, if the dialogue skip keyboard thing exists, this is pretty much the same thing, and should be left as is.
I mean if you start the game at 60Hz, and then switch to smth like 240Hz, you’ll still be at the same speed as if you were capped at 60 the hole time until you close the game, but on the other hand there’s already so many runs out there with different refresh rates, not sure how this can be fixed unless a 60Hz limit is set on the next version.
The difference between just 240 and 60hz is already 2+ minutes, and with greater speed boosts near the end of the game, i think the difference between 60 and 540 nears 4-5 minutes
Doubt the devs would change it, but they patched double esc so who knows. The only way to fix it is either for someone to develop a required mod that somehow fixes it, or require a refresh rate limit which would be hard to enforce and would be annoying for people to have to show their settings at the start of every run.
Over the past year and a half, there's been a discussion around the fairness of the current dialogue skipping meta. Having overpowered keyboards has always been a contentious topic and one that the community is very divided about. Many people have given ideas on how to make it more fair, but none ha
