im new to both speedrunning and hellmet in general and I feel a little disadvantaged because I don’t have access to many of the perks the top runners take advantage of. In my head, speedrunning should be about skill and practice, not if you have grinded the game long enough to have access to all the doohickeys, especially really good shit like stillness and steadfast. Some rules and constraints on perks allowed would be a good idea to improve fairness and competitive legitimacy, or maybe instead a new "perkless" category or smth like that??
^ also just to clarify im not saying I think all the existing runs utilising perks should be deleted or some shit like that, just going forward I think it should be changed
It would be a good idea, but unfortunately I do not have the right to make that decision, I would have to discuss it with the other moderators.
thanks for taking the time to read my post guys. i think its an especially important thing to consider if more people get interested because they might get deterred if they're new to hellmet and realise theres this barrier of entry to be competitive on leaderboards. i almost quit trying to run solo decov extremity because i saw the 1st place dude run into a storm of bullets, get visited by the spooky yellow guy, regen ALL his health and turn IMMUNE for a second or so. i was like shit well I cant do that why even try to compete
yeah this is even more relevant now with the level cap being removed, we now have three good perk trees and to partially fill the pert (cause its tier 3 perk is useless) this takes alot of grinding and ultimately makes speedrunning alot less entry level, i would appreciate a category extension for no perks
