First DSWTF Speedrun Guide

Hey everyone this guide is to help people figure out how to speedrun Don’t Sleep with the Fishes for speedrun times.

**I by no means consider myself an expert in the game. I have a hard time avoiding obvious mistakes and haven’t succeeded in going fast yet. I only got a couple world records in the longest survival categories that aren’t played for time at all. I’m hoping more people with greater knowledge can crush this game and get fast times in whatever category works best. The goal is to see something fast rather than a long survival run.**

It seems there are two ways to beat the game currently that would be competitive endings to go for:

- True Ending
    - This requires you to reach the **Kraken** event with all three pieces of the **“Heart of the Sea”** and choose to end the game.
    - The three pieces of the heart must be collected using each of these three methods in a run (as far as I know currently)
        - **Fishing piece:** A small chance to get one piece from fishing, either with bait or not, this drop should not consume bait when caught on the current patch. 
            - This piece’s drop rate appears to be 10 percent and must be caught on or after day 24 [unoffdontsleepwiththefishes.fandom.com/wiki/Fishing](http://unoffdontsleepwiththefishes.fandom.com/wiki/Fishing) 
        - **Chest piece:** This piece must be found in a chest. I believe the chance is quite low, and increases significantly if you hold every unique item on your lifeboat
        - **Red Water piece:** there is a night time even that I think is guaranteed to appear before the Kraken event on the newest patch where the water is red. Using the net or bucket on this event seems to give you the needed heart piece. 

The Kraken shows up on or after day 30.

**Danger Mechanic**

This game has a hidden value called “danger.” It goes up over time and also goes up depending on some of your actions. This is important at least in the True Ending speedrun because the Kraken cannot show up until you are at a danger level of 4, and the heart piece cannot be fished for, and the red water event cannot appear until you reach a danger level of 2.

**Other ending option: Set foot on land**

To reach this ending you simply have to survive until you reach the final event. The event only appears on or after day 42, and requires that you get past a Kraken, and have a minimum danger level of 3. This run would be less RNG dependant than true ending with a slower final time, but should be more consistent if you can manage your resources. This would focus on choosing the fastest animation options, and clicking end day as quickly as possible each time without the run dying, and not focusing on collecting the heart pieces.

I’d be happy to create more guides, video guides and other tips for speedrunning. Like I said at the beginning, there are better players already and certainly new players could outperform my skill at scavenging and making nighttime and daytime decisions. - Glitched/Any% added. Only known tech that changes the runs atm is quitting to main menu or closing the game to reset the day that you are on. What counts as a glitch will change as things are tested/found.
