To which Category can I Submit?

Hi there! I just started running this game (N64 version) and I'm unsure to which Category should I submit my runs.

Unfortunately, I'm on Mac (I know...) and the only working N64-emulators are OpenEmu (mupen64plus core) or Sixtyforce, but I don't know if the rules are ok with these. Also, I don't seem to find a way to display my input on macOS.

My other option would be playing it on a modded Wii. Does this fall under the N64 Category or the N64 EMU one?

Thank you for the help!

Hey there Belay!

There are limitations on what emulators are allowed for submission with the goal of keeping the performance/speed the same between everyone's runs. The permitted emulators for N64 are:

N64: • Project 64 v1.6 • Project 64 v1.7 (recommend) • M64Py v0.2.4 (Mupen64Plus v2.5.0) [Linux only]

Which was outlined in this post by GhostSenpai: https://www.speedrun.com/ddgq/thread/hlc1s

I think there might be a version of the last one that works on mac, but for now that's the rules. If you can't find an emulator that works for mac maybe we look into the ones you said and try to get them added if they are close enough?

I would avoid running it on the wii as it emulation that is not supported on the board and from my experience is very buggy. If you were to run it like that you would submit it under emulation.

If you wanted to try, the dreamcast version plays almost exactly the same and you might have better luck getting an emulator that works.

There's a lot of browser/obs forms of input overlay out there! Here's a few: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/input-overlay.552/ https://gamepadviewer.com/

Hope this helps! <3

Thanks for the kind reply UI_Jess!

I tried the game both on OpenEmu (mupen64plus) and Sixtyforce. It seems stable on both (maybe a little more smooth on the first, and the textures look little bit better on the second, but I'm not an expert).

Didn't think about the Dreamcast version, I'll check that out. I'm trying to avoid the PS1 version because it's a lot less polished and fun imho.

Also, thank you for the input overlays!
