I discovered a new strat on accident while performing this - when you get the cyclops quest from the Riftstone, sleep until nightfall before continuing onwards. Mercedes will spawn closer to the training zone. Also, entering the Rift will freeze time, which could give players a chance, in two different spots, to get their bearings and rest mid game.
