120 Board Guide and New Runner resource (Feb 8th, 2016) By TDF_Sumo

Hello from TDF_Sumo!

I put together this board guide to help new players to the 120 billboard format. Players should have a basic understanding of how to drift, boost, e-brake turn, flat spin, and basic game controls. If you're completely new to the game, I recommend running a few stunt runs until you get a solid feel for the vehicles and what situations cause crashes.

About the Save and Timing:

We save our game after the opening cutscenes, and after the introduction of the bikes. This allows us to fix our settings, disable hints, fix our controllers, whatever we need, before time begins. Otherwise, you'd be stuck with 6 minutes of unskippable cutscene each time you practice. Time starts as soon as you turn the car on for the first time. I recommend all players create a copy of their save before working on this run since Burnout Paradise doesn't have a simple way to wipe your data. By default the save file is located here -> "C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Criterion Games\Burnout Paradise\Save" (obviously replace "yourname" with the user account name). After each practice run, simply overwrite the save in your appdata folder with the back-up you created.

As a reference, new players should expect this run to take them over an hour, but with practice you can get times around 55 minutes or less. The current record is MissingYew's run at 48:37 at the time of writing this guide. A sub 50 run is very tough! Mistakes in this game tend to cause minutes of delay, not just seconds!

About the format:

There are 120 billboards hidden throughout Paradise City. The game's designers certainly didn't intend for us to start a fresh save and gets these boards right off the bat! So we have a bit of fun getting all the boards with some of the worst cars in the game, but we still do it pretty dang fast!

The Hunter Cavalry is the starting vehicle. It's very heavy and durable, so it can survive collisions most cars cannot. Unfortunately, the Cavalry is too slow to hit board #93 (using the current route as of Feb 8th, 2016) in Silverlake Marina. Thus, we have to unlock a faster/lighter car in order to hit it.

To unlock vehicles you must complete events. For our run, the best events are stunt runs because they allow you to go wherever you want. So we can continue on our route knocking our boards, while also getting points for the stunt run. If you're worried about not being good at stunts, don't worry! Just getting to boards will give you enough points to complete the runs we need!

In total, our route needs to complete 5 events. The city is huge, so don't assume my route is the only one. I created a route that felt comfortable to me, but feel free to tinker and optimize!

For the actual board-by-board guide, I created a video series to assist new runners:
