Switch Virtual Console allowed?

Since this is a huge SNES speedrun community, I thought I'd ask here: any experience regarding the Switch Virtual Console for SNES games, and whether it's suitable for ALTTP or let's say SNES games in general?

It seems it's already allowed, since it's listed for legit consoles, iirc.

Thanks for your feedback!

Just yesterday I updated a paste bin as part of a FAQ for new Super Mario World speedrunners that relates to SNES Classic and the new Nintendo Switch Online. It might have some useful info.

I can say that the Switch plays a lot like the SNES Classic which is what I did my speedruns on for a long time for both SMW and LTTP. The input lag is the main consideration - it is obviously slightly worse than what you will get on a console setup but as good as or slightly better than most emulator setups. I have done solo speedruns and also co-op speedruns online on Switch and it was fine.

In terms of LTTP, I haven't played the Switch version yet so I can't say for sure. There was talk of people organising a Switch LTTP race but I'm not sure that actually happened.

I personally find input lag to be more tolerable on LTTP than SMW so after some adjustment I'm sure it would be fine. But missing out on the JP glitches might be annoying and the jailbreak solutions for the Switch seem more difficult and riskier than the established Hackchi tool to put custom ROMs on the SNES Classic.

I actually got an improved PB for the Switch version of ALttP than on my Wii U VC and even Wii VC when I speedran it back before Switch version came out. I dunno for sure about input lag but I know here it's allowed since it's on the listed platforms when submitting a run.

The main trouble will be, that you will not be able to perform spinspeed or itemdash gliches on these versions. These are JPN 1.0 exclusives. Else it should be fine and allowed!
