As you might have noticed from the hotel thread, conference rooms cost a lot of money. To help pay for them, we are going to host an online marathon to raise money for that.

Goal would be $6475 (cheapest one for 7 days). If this goal is hit, then we wouldn't need to have an attendance fee.
Booking the space for a week, but the marathon itself will probably stay 5 days, that way we can actually have a setup day.
Fundraising marathon is definitely an option, unfortunately there isn't any money left over from the attendance fee of the last one.

Please fill out this form if you want to attend. This will give us an idea of what size conference room we should be looking for.
Figuring out which hotel - http://www.speedrun.com/nasa2017/thread/ci266 Figuring out the month - May most likely - http://www.speedrun.com/nasa2017/thread/ovl4d
If you have any questions about NASA 2017, ask here.
I probably should have talked to sinister1 about front page shit for this. Oops.
As for the event my only comment is that the projector/mirror was visible in the webcam for some runs, made the webcam adjust to the bright light of that so the runners were harder to see.
Sounds good, but we probably won't need anyone to check out hotels til after we've gotten quotes from them.
Toronto is right beside the niagara falls, vancouver is on the west coast, calgary is ~4 hour drive north of montana. Not sure what makes toronto a stretch but I think its gonna be cheaper for airfare for most americans and probably better for driving distance for any on the east coast
If you got criticisms/ideas for us to improve, lay it on us.
I looked for 24/7 Dennys or Tims and found a few hotels near one of these, as well as hotels near YYZ. If you want to help search for a good hotel, the requirements are that it is near a 24/7 restaraunt, is within an hour of YYZ, has conference space(s) OR one of those huge suites that can fit 20 people. Here is the list I got so far:
Name Price per night in CAD; 24/7 food; other food
Toronto Airport West Hotel $125; Dennys; Montanas Kelseys Mcdonalds $1100 a day for 2106 sq ft (702 sq ft x 3, total of 2106)
Hilton Garden Inn Toronto/Mississauga $146; mcdonalds; bunch of stuff $ 925.00 per night for 1300 sq. ft room
Sandman Signature Mississauga Hotel $134; Dennys; Montanas Kelseys Mcdonalds $1299.00 per day for 2000 sq ft
Fairfield Inn & Suites (emailed, waiting on response) $131; Dennys Mcdonalds; Moxies Boston Pizza Chako Turtle Jacks Montanas
Holiday Inn Toronto Airport East (emailed, waiting on response) $134; Tim Hortons; Perkins harveys milestones sushi-ya subway swisschalet
Radisson Suite Hotel Toronto Airport (emailed, waiting on response) $126; Tim Hortons; Perkins harveys milestones sushi-ya subway swisschalet
Once we figure out the month I'll ask the hotels for a quote on the conference space.
Hotels that I asked and said they can't do it:
NU Hotel (no conference room) $91; Zets; Subway Wendys PizzaWay
Comfort Inn Airport West (fits 30 people max) $84; Dennys; Montanas Kelseys Mcdonalds
International Plaza Hotel (too expensive) $139; Tim Hortons; Perkins harveys milestones sushi-ya subway swisschalet $1,800.00 for 2552 sq ft (one big room) $2 250.00 for 3192 sq ft (one big room with two dividers)
What month should NASA 2017 be in?
Once this is decided, I'll ask a bunch of hotels for quotes on the price of the conference space.
well yea but that was still a far walk from the melon room.
I was told there was gonna be a stream for mafia, there wasn't. I'm mad.
I had to walk like, 8 minutes to buy chicken nuggets for the winners of the GX challenge. In flicky time thats over half an hour. I'm mad.
Last year the donation count was a side-show with everyone focusing on speedrunning, this year there seemed to be some staff bummed out that they weren't raising enough money. The goals seem to be shifting between staff members. Y'all need to talk about what your priorities are since I've heard different staff say they wanted different goals from the marathon. Oh, and even if you want your main goal to be for charity, having any of that money go through G2A is questionable, since they literally sell stolen goods. Not sure who thought that was a good idea, but whomever it was they figuratively have their head up their ass.
I'm not saying you should go full-NASA and completely remove donations, but from what I gathered conversing with ESA staff y'all should have a long talk about what your exact goals are for the marathon. If you want my advice as an event organizer then feel free to contact me on twitter @NASAMarathon
Lack of chairs, even before we took ~20 for mafia.
More PC setups, there were only ~5, and with plenty of people wanting to practice PC runs or do other PC shit, that really isn't enough.
Pre-game host BS. Not a lot of people can bull-shit for 15 minutes like myself. It's not a skill I can readily teach people either, y'all need to have some shit ready for times when a host is running out of things to say. My recommendation is to have a Clue donation war, and have a permanent setup of Clue on the SNES where you can accuse the donation leaders for each of the 3 options (person, place, weapon). If you actually won the chat would go ape shit, and probably spur some extra donations.
Having to go up a load of stairs to get to watermelon controller room is a bad idea, I think your marathon should accomadate Americans.
Next year I'd like to see a dedicated stream for Mafia and Chess 3.
Could this event be held in Gothenburg? Not sure if you could get the same deals venue-wise but there were waaaay more food options there.
You literally have 2 weeks, I think you'll be fine
DreamHack dude said he would give tickets to runners/tech. So unless you have tech experience than yea, you would be sol.
Game submissions will close on July 1st.
Right, didn't state that already. Well, quo made 7 game submissions, so I guess we'll make that the cap? unlimited categories. 7 games tops.
I don't know actually, first time using this site's submission thing. Go ahead and re-submit the game with comments if you cant find an edit function.
Deln: Darkfox says you should bring the files you need, on a flashdrive or similar.
