French Southern TerritoriesI've never routed an RPG game, but when I go to route a new game, I first try to figure out: what do I need to do how can I do that For some games, this results in a pretty simple routing process. So when I say "what do I need to do" it's more complex than, "I need to beat the game" More specifically, it would be, "I need to get my stats up to this number, obtain this item, and then get to this room and beat the boss" So, figure out what items would boost your stats the most, what items are closest to a direct route to a bossfight, and start there. For simple games, you can put together a good route very quickly.
However, complicated games require trial and error. Let's say that an rpg has a final boss, but there are also 6 minibosses that can be done in any order, and each one grants a helpful ability upon beating it. To tackle something like this, I basically test almost every route to find which one is fastest. I can't test EVERY route though, with 6 bosses that's 720 routes. Instead, I need to find one that makes sense. Routing any game is going to take some research. You'll need to know what items and abilities you get from those bosses. Then, find a route that makes sense. For example, if boss 3 has an item that speeds up walking speed, that would be a good first boss. Test a few routes that start there, and see what times you get. If you can't pick a single route that makes the most sense, then pick 2 routes and compare them.
This is just an example of how I would approach routing a hypothetical game, I hope I wasn't confusing. Another thing that would be good is to get help from another runner. 2 heads are better than one, and if multiple people work on the route, the more likely it is that you'll find a really good route
First thing I would do is contact the runner and ask why they are doing that. I'm sure they have a reason for doing it. If it turns out that they're just doing it for no reason, I would warn against that kind of behavior. You shouldn't have to keep verifying the same run over and over again.

I have run 100%, but I don't want to submit until I get sub 4 (currently have a 4:02 or something). They are secrets, and I don't want to spoil how to get them in the rules.
SPOILER ALERT
At the start of the game, hold down and left and you'll walk into a secret room with stylish hats in it.
When you are leaving the waterfall and crossing the bridge, hold down and you can find a secret room with a rollercoaster in it
There are other secrets too, and they are required to fill out the map. You have to take the long way at the split paths. Go into the bottom left and hold down, and youll go into a secret room containing a fun zelda reference.
To get to a secret gameboy NPC, when going up the really big air elevator thing after talking to the alien, hold left about halfway up and glide, and youll make it to a secret platform.
I think that's everything, but I might be forgetting something. There is another secret in the game where you go under the rock where the first crystal is, but that doesn't fill out another space on the map so it isn't required.
My first ever speedrun was an unrecorded nmsb2 speedrun back in 2018 or so. I used to delete obsoleted runs, so my first surviving video run is a 6.97 IL for the game Mobility! from march 2020. https://www.speedrun.com/mobility/run/z014jroy
Using the route I did, there are only 2 possible frames that could be saved, so this record stood unbeaten for about a year. A new route was found and it was beaten by about .2 recently. At the time, I believe it was the longest standing world record ever for that game, but I could be wrong.
Eventually I will probably have a new record that will stand for much longer. The only runner who is competitive with me for IL records is @susuwi, and he plays on the web version of the game. The level "final boss old" is an unfinished level that can only be accessed by modifying the game's files, so it can't be played on web. I am never running that garbage level again, so it will stand for a long time to come.
